Well, as JB often said...."I'm not selling toothpaste"
when someone asked why he never smiled when playing.
No, my friend ... that ain't funeral music. I guess you don't appreciate Hawaiian music ?
The steel man is (Dr.) Don Woods and he did a nice job. |

OK,TB,--do you make it a habit of putting other steel players down? Shame on you. Where do we find samples of your fantastic superb
steel work?

Wally, just try to recognize a troll when you see one.
The internet is full of them. Ignoring them is the best medicine.

I'm afraid I don't understand the Jappie reference or how it relates to this thread. It's probably some sort of extended metaphor, but I'm not the brightest guy on my street (or even the tenth brightest), so maybe you could explain what you mean fully.
Sincerely

What's with the troll accusation BS? tb posted legitimately asking about the style and demeanor of the clip with Don, and we know he has a pref for the syrupy manufactured type that many condem. That most steelers put on a game face that isn't a showman's dream may be news to tb, and I know Don is focusing his butt off on his playing, not thinking about being on youtube. Making tb feel the need to defend his post is uncalled for, we all have our own taste, and we can prod him over towards the better stuff easier with edumacated honey than vinegar, right? |

Ron, I disagree. I don't think that Don has a syrupy manufactured tone as you seem to feel. I actually enjoyed this clip and although I don't watch it I listen to it quite often. He is an authentic Hawaian player and plays well. It was just all the sad faces of the band! _________________ LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA |

Hi TB. Just wanted to reply to your post.
Change your term sad faces to serious faces and I believe that you will have it.
I will explain what happens in this setting so that you will have a context for my statement.
First of all, there was no rehearsal for this performance. All backup musicians were given chord charts to follow without having seen them prior. There were some complicated chords so that each backup person had to pay close attention to avoid mistakes. They did their best to give the me good backup, so therefore they had to concentrate. So in concentrating their faces have a serious look. You will normally not smile when you are concentrating intensely. Try it sometime and you will see what I mean.
I am not offended, TB. I understood what you were saying.
Aloha,
Don
