I don't visit the non-pedal section of the forum much so I apologize if this question gets answered frequently.
I'm thinking about adding a Weissenborn to the arsenal sometime soon, and I want to be able to plug it in (whether it be PA or amp) for the ease of taking it out on gigs.
I'd like to get a sense of what's out there for instruments. Ive seen a lot more cheaper ones popping up on the market over the last few years and I wonder if any of them are any good. At least for now, I don't see myself dropping two grand on a vintage or custom instrument, but could maybe spend half that if I find something worth it. Unfortunately I'm usually pretty picky about the quality of the instruments I play. Sound and feel are pretty important to me, decorations not so much.
Id love to hear all your guys' thoughts on this. I'd also be into hearing about any Oahu type acoustic guitars that have a good sound. Thanks! |

Thanks Terry. I've heard a little about lazy river before. Seems like the most affordable hand made Weissenborn... Still the gap between them and the next cheapest is rather large.
Just trying to get a sense for what's out there.. |

Speaking of Lazy River ... I have been in contact with Rance who makes these ... he is just a few miles from where I work and I will be making an appointment to go and see some of his Weissenborns ... hopefully, I can report back in the next few weeks. _________________ -- Rick

Really there are lots of very low cost Weiss's to be had these days. Some are not too bad either. But the real difference is in the sound...as it is with all instruments.
I highly recommend Lazy River for price point/quality. Rance's guitars exceed all others in those comparisons in my humble opinion. |

I have a John Pearse wiessenborn made by Musicalia in Italy, which has a great full bass sound. Any of thier models are top quality. I tune mine to F (two frets lower than the standard G reso tuing.
Thanx,
Jim |
