The only similarity is they both say "Peavey" on the front. _________________ Dave O'Brien

The 112 has one 12" speaker and the 400 has on 15" speaker for one thing. The 400 is heavy. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

Put a neo speaker in the 400 and they're close to the same weight. |

Thanks fellow mates, How's the tone compared to the 400, i never liked playing into a standard guitar amp, so what does the NV112 have for STEEL players....I want a more portable amp for jams etc but i dont' want that thin guitar amp sound for my STEEL. Ultimatly if they are a joke, i'd just as soon get another NV400. _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

The NV112 is a "real" steel guitar amp. It was originally marketed as a small "practice amp" but it turned out to be a sleeper and put the bigger Nashville 1000 out of production as everyone wanted the NV112.
You will not be disappointed in a NV112. It is "voiced" for steel where a lead guitar amp is voiced differently (where the response is emphasized). The speaker is also "voiced" for steel guitar applications. I've used mine for both E9th and C6th and it works well. If you check around you will find a lot of big name steelers using NV112's. |

Seriously Larry if you try one I predict you will sell your NV400 like I did. The proof is in the performance on stage. _________________ Dave O'Brien

Larry - Also depends on how loud you need to play with headroom. The NV 112 is not as loud. Some folks use two of 'em. _________________ Just 'cause I look stupid, don't mean I'm not. |

I run my NV112, pre on 4 and post on 6. I've worked the road with this amp and except for a big venue that everything was miked, it was the amp by itself and plenty loud. But, we were not a "loud" band and we played all traditional country music.
It is rated at 80 watts, but its a "loud" 80 watts. |

Nashville 112 is the only amp I'll purchase. Lightweight plenty of power and good tone/sustain, once a player knows how to set it. All you need with a 112 is a new amp cover from Steel Covers Nashville. |

Larry I know you will get many differing opinions. But I've used just about every amp there is out there to get the holy grail of tone and I keep coming back to the N112 with Ken's mod in them. Twins... Deluxe's.... Cubes....etc. I just traded my Webb for (2) 112's and couldn't be happier. You just need to know how to dial the thing in and then the skys open and the angels sing... I guess I'm in the minority here. My 400 with an Eminence neo is my go-to amp. It's fairly close in weight to the 112, and it's just a sweeter sound to my ear. There's chocolate and vanilla, but I like strawberry. |

Peavey? I'd rather have a 500 or Session 400 or the LTD.
The 112 has good tone, but needs reinforcement in louder rooms _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I think my LTD is about four or five lbs lighter than the 112 with the Neolite speaker and it's made out of real plywood, not particle board which helps with weight. I've got a 112 and I also got smoked at Pearls in Ft Worth one night. They are good sounding amps but if you wanna keep up with a loud band, they are lacking in volume. _________________ Henry Matthews

Are you miking and using a monitor, when you got smoked??
Neo-lite speaker, makes a NV400 lighter than a 112?? I'm all ears baby! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

You will be playing really loud if the NV 112 won't keep up. I had a gig a few weeks ago with a very loud guitar player, I was using one 112, I had to have the post gain at 10 and the pre gain at about 8. We were LOUD, but I kept up. Normally I would set the post at about 7 and the pre about 5. I did have ear plugs in. The 112 sounds very good and seems like it has a smoother sound than the NV 400, and a less emphasis on the mids. I like it better than the NV 400.
About the LTD 400, I have one, it's a great amp too, with the stock speaker, it's just a few pounds heavier than the NV 112. I think about 52 lbs. But I still prefer the sound of the 112 |

I have no loud band situations, so no prob there. I had a NV 400, traded for a 112. Also have the LTD 400, old, battered, and a Eminence Commonwealth in it that weights a ton. So, got the lightweight beauty, and the heavy monster that I leave parked on stage at church 99% of the time. Works out good that way. Both sweet. ... _________________ Mullen Lacquer SD 10, 3 & 5; Mullen Mica S 10 1/2 pad, 3 & 5; BJS Bars; LTD400, Nashville 112, DD-3, RV-3, Hilton VP . -- Gold Tone PBS sq neck; Wechter Scheerhorn sq neck. -- "Experience is the thing you have left when everything else is gone." -anon.- |

Larry, they don't mike any instruments at Pearls or never seen they mike and the stage sound is usually pretty loud.. Ron Stafford was also playing when I wasn't up there but he was playing a NV400 so he stayed in the mix good. My 112 just wouldn't get up there. I'm surprised the amp held up and didnt blow speaker but it didn't.
A lot of the NV400 weight is that danged old particle board cabinet but with the Neolite speaker, it feels about like a 112 and I love the sound of those speakers. I personally like them better than the BW. Highs are crispier and not harsh. _________________ Henry Matthews

When you play at a sound level that a NV 112 is turned all the way up. Sound quality and tone are out the window.
Switching amps is a mute point but a NV 400 will get louder. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.
