So...I saw this on eBay...made an offer and it was accepted! Looks like a beautiful rig. Amp has an 8" Lansing speaker @ 12-18 watts! Plus case candy (vintage bars and picks). Very excited.

Spill the beans, how good a score did you make on this sweet looking set? The amp is probably killers!

Ron: That's the first GEBS Guitar and Amp Iv'e seen since 1944. I had the Student Model finished in Mother of Pearl and a smaller Amp with a 6" Speaker which was from the NIOMA school. The Amp was too small to play in a Band so I purchased a Gibson yellow Tweed with a 12" speaker. The first Band I played in had a Sax and Trumpet and everyone played LOUD.

The amp would deffinitely be a valuable candidate for it's tone, never standing a chance on stage, but it's one of those that just screams... I sound good!

I am told (and from what I could see on the video) that this amp is very similar to a tweed era (5F2) Princeton. Looking very forward to that.

Nice, Geoff! While you're at it, you should grab this remarkable combo for the same or less money. Or at least someone here should. I'd think an original Oahu amp like that is worth the price of admission itself.

That's far too much for an Oahu in that condition.

The Oahu set is cool...but I've seen a number of them. I've never seen a GEBS set before and the amp with the Lansing speaker has been expertly refurbished. Should be here on Friday EOD. Smile

I'd say the entire Oahu package will have no problem going for the BIN price, the amp is in great condition and should be the focus of the lot. The guitar, even with the weird damage, and small accompanying items are a nice afterthot, but the case is real nice and the amp has the cover. How great it all sounds together is a crapshoot, but at least the looks are there.

That's what I thought about the Oahu package: it's mostly about the amp, and the matching lap steel and other goodies are a gracenote. But, yeah, who knows about the sound? The GEBS rig on the other hand has some serious potential. I love amps with field coil speakers. My blue & white Bronson Singing Electric sounds like a tweed Deluxe on quaaludes and I love it!

One day when I was taking a lesson on my Gebs Guitar and Amp at the NIOMA School, my teacher, Agnes K. Roberts, brougt in a prototype of a Combination Guitar and Amp all in one unit that sat on her lap.
The six string Guitar was about 6" deep with the Amp on the bottom with the speaker facing down on the bottom with the sound going between one's legs towards the floor. All other Amp components were built into the bottom of the Guitar. I only saw this Combo one time and have wondered how the heat of the Amp was tolerated when the whole thing was sitting on one's lap. If this thing still exists, what a collector's item it would be !

Here is a picture of us students of NIOMA playing mostly our GEBS Guitars and Amps. I am the guy on the right in the first row (looking at the picture)
Venue was the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in West Los Angeles. This was only one part of an annual concert

The girl stranding up in the second row was Twila Jensen. At the time I was in Love with Twila but she didn't know it. I just can't remember any names of the others.
