I played a lap steel for a few months fifty years ago. I played an old Fender 400 for a little over a year in the late sixties. I basically was a lead guitar player. Met Jimmy Bryant in the mid-seventies, did many promotions with him and promoted many things with some of the great pedal steel players. After working with many great musicians I decided that I wasn't a very good player so I quit playing altogether in the early eighties.

Now I'm itching to play again so I bought a vintage 6 string National steel guitar. I love it. I am enjoying playing at this age as much as I did back in the sixties. I've been playing for 4 months but I am hearing way too much that just isn't there on the ole six stringer.

I don't want a pedal steel, just a good modern 8 string. Any suggestions as to which steel I might consider looking at? There is some great stuff on those non-pedal steel guitars and I'm finding a lot of it. Billy Robinson is now my hero. Thanks, Dave A. Burley
