Looking to lighten my load. We all use in-ears so I'd like to just run a preamp into the board. Can't afford the Revelation but would appreciate some recommendations. Using a NV112 now. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |

A used Mesa Boogie Studio preamp is all-tube, sounds nice, and can be found pretty cheap.

I'm running a stereo Roland Mobile Cube into a PA head, into a 15" EV/Force... really nice sound. The Roland preamps are as good as anything I've heard... plus on-board effects, distortion, etc. I'm no longer a tube snob when it comes to steel guitar.
I have found that the stereo headphone output has a dry and a wet side... if you just TRS out and into a 1/4" input you get the wet side only... I run a 1/8" TRS into RCA pair, into the PA head, either mono (summed on one channel's dual RCA input) or stereo (split between two channels's RCA inputs and panned). _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

The old Presonus Blue pres have a 12ax7 tube and can be found on e-bay for under 100. They also have two channels if you are using a stereo delay. |

I may try Pod into Art MP tube pre-amp into the board. Since I already have these things. I can get a half-**sed sound out of the Pod II. If I can make it work I'll get a Pod XT, which we know has some decent steel sounds. Anybody try this approach? Thanks for the suggestions. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |

If you can find one, try a Digitech GSP1101. It's a modelling preamp. I've been using one for a few years and am happy with it's sound. I run it into a QSC K10 powered monitor. I send the XLR out to FOH and run the 1/4' outputs to a line mixer. From the FOH mixer, I run my monitor send(vocals and other inst.) into my line mixer where it gets mixed with my steel and guitar. More steel, no problem, and without affecting the FOH send! If I want to use in-ears, there's a headphone output on it too. The mixer is an Ashly LX-308. |

Well if you can't afford a Revelation Pre, you won't be able to afford a Telonics Pre either ...I would rate these 2 as the best available. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Well, I'm playing with a 14-year-old phenom singer named Devon Worley. If she moves up a notch maybe I can pop for the Revelation. Of course, if she does that she'll probably fire us all and hire some Nashville hotshots. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |
