The lick he plays at 2:08 is something else!

I bet on Hal Rugg too. I bought a double album today consisting of his sole RCA album and the singles he recorded for that label, so I guess it was the same steel player on all the cuts.
Here's another one:

Vernon is a very good friend of mine, I had the pleasure of backing him back in the early 80's, recorded with him at the BBC and toured the UK and Norway. I asked him who his steel player he used in the USA he said he used Lloyd whenever possible. A charming man and very kind.... |

Very intersting John. The liner notes of the record I have, has liner notes written by a man who worked for the BBC. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

The first part of the"lick at 2:08"sounds just like a lick Weldon played at the beginning of the steel solos on"Whiskey River"and"Bright Lights and Country Music"...just sayin'... |

There are two killer steel breaks on Oxford's "I'm A Redneck" |

Sure sounds like Weldon. I bet it's Weldon on "Shadows of my mind" as well; as I remember from all the album covers it was almost always him or Lloyd playing steel.
I discovered Vernon Oxford back in the mid-seventies when I was 16. How uncool was that – and how little did I care what other people thought. What a great singer, almost too much country for country. |
