I ran across a very nice session 400 at the local music store, almost prefect condition as far as tolex and hardware, the knobs are in great shape none of them have any wobble to them like a bent shaft, just the stickers on the knobs are a little different, one has a red dot in the middle and one a blue dot, it's a 1979 and has a black widow 15 in speaker with the spider Webb logo, they said it worked as good as it looks, I havnt had a session 400 since 1984 when it was stolen, I was wondering about what these are worth, I was just thinking about buying it just to keep as a collector peice, prob pick around on it some in the music room, I know it's kinda heavy and probably wouldn't play it out. What do you guys think about these amps?
Any comments welcomed

Roger...I ran into a 1977 model (same speaker in there too) about a year and a half ago and paid around 300-325. It was not in perfect cosmetic condition, but in very decent shape. It had the wrong reverb tank in it, but after putting the correct tank in there, it was in very good shape sound wise.
I liked it enough to do a cap job on it and put the lighter weight Eminence EPS-15C speaker in there. I think it's an outstanding solid state amp for pedal steel. _________________ Emmons Push Pull, BMI, Session 400, Home of the Slimcaster Tele. |

IMO, only the Hernia 500 sounded better, Peavey-wise.
Prices under $300 are steals, over $400 are rapacious, also IMO.
I'd grab it unless you already had an Evans and a Little Walter _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |
