Hey You Guys!

I have been playing a Double Neck Carter with 9 and 8 for almost 3 years now. It was the last order they took before the prices got bumped up. I remember talking to Ann on my cell phone and getting the pharmacist to fax the order to her while I was doing my grocery shopping.

I love this axe. It does everything I ask of it and more. I ordered all the junk I could think of because I was never going to be in the position again to have someone build me a pedal steel. I am still using the Franklin pedal very sparingly. Because I don't want to play something that doesn't belong there. Know what I mean?

I never see much written about Carter Steels, good or bad. Do any of you guys have an opinion? I have Wallace True Tone PU and use a Hilton Volume Pedal but my old Sho-Bud Pedal works just fine.

Just curious.

Steely

I don't have much to compare it to but all I can say is I bought mine third hand about seven years ago and I have never had a problem with it. It has a lot of hours on it too. Based on that I'd guess Carter is a very well made guitar and it's a pity that they are no longer made. For some reason they haven't had quite the " sex appeal " of some other brands. They sold for less than a lot of their competitors and sometimes that can work against a brand in that there may be a mistaken perception of lesser quality. The lower price was probably due to more modern manufacturing practices. I never seen any complaints about Carter quality on this forum and my twelve year old model is certainly holding up extremely well. So yes, I like 'em.

Well, I've got two of them. Both D10 with 8 and 8. One is a '96 that I bought new and the other is a 2003 that I picked up.
I wish somebody would tell me what is wrong with them because I think they are great.

Never owned a Carter, but have played a few either in UK or at Dallas shows, always liked them and if had spare cash would quite happily have one.Always found the late John Fabian and of course the great Bud Carter to be extremely helpful with any questions I asked.

I bought 7 new Carters, when I was a Carterman and several used ones since. My problem with the Carter guitars was not the guitars. It wasn't with Bud either. When I order a new guitar and the builder sends it with the wrong pickups. It's a mistake. When they refuse to swap out the pu's and won't honor the correct pu's, then I won't buy another one, period. Yea, that had me a little mad, to say the least but I let it go and moved on. John did replace a part on a U-12 I had bought one time that broke because the hole in the metal was drilled to close to the end of the piece. No problems with any D-10's though or S-10D's. The only problem I did find with a Carter product was the material that the changer fingers were made out of on the Magnum's was weak and would bend easily. Of course, there was a big argument over that situation but I won't get into that. I let it go and moved on to a new Rains. I only pray that John is in heaven, Ann is doing good and that Bud is doing good with the ETS guitars. Good bless. All was forgiven. If I needed a guitar now, I'd buy a used Carter in a heartbeat.

I've recently started learning to play PSG, and a good old friend sold me his Carter D10 with a Hilton pedal for a ridiculously low price that enticed me into to this whole deal. I'm really proud of the Carter and have only played a few other guitars, and haven't found any I like any better than my Carter. This is as well made PSG as I think their is. I know you can spend more money for one, but I don't think you'd get a whole lot better guitar than this one right here.

I have 2 Carter D-10's and couldn't be happier with them. Other steels I have owned played like driving an old school bus, and the Carters play like driving a Ferrari. They just fit me like a glove.

I think the great Tommy White said it best recently in a classified ad for a used Carter when he said "pound for pound one of the best steels ever made".

I like them a lot. I have a Magnum that I don't ever intend to sell as long as I can play. The premium neck one that I had that is currently for sale on the Forum is a great guitar. It sounds wonderful with the Alumitone pickups. I would love to have that one back but you just have to stop somewhere.

I had a SD-10 I should have never sold. I had a D-10 I should have never sold. I had a U-12 I had to sell for the taxman. Now I have a U-12 that will be my one and only. What a great guitar! My first U-12 was a 2006 with BCT and the one I have now is a 1998, no BCT, and it sounds WAY better.

My main guitar is a carter D-10 blue birds eye maple mica '02 model and I love the tone all over again every time I play it. Great mechanics too.
