I decided to make a photo record of my Gibson lap steel & amp outfits and thought they might interest fellow members.

Amazing collection! They're all sweet, but I particularly like the two EH-185's with the EH-185 amp. I had the version with the Charlie Christian pickup, and I regret selling it. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Ron, my favorite is the EH185 it is loud and breaks up. I want to try and find the time to do video sound bites of each one with their matching lap steel and then also play a Strat or Tele through them to show the sound variations.

Michael,
I am really impressed. I have never seen so many versions of the EH-100 in one collection. The very early version of the EH-150, BR-3 and BR-4 are incredibly rare. What is really amazing is the condition of these amps that are so old.

To round out your collection, you really need a BR-1 amp. I think you'll like the sound of that as much or more than EH-185.

Mick,
Mine would need some restoring. The original speaker had popped, and, as you know, it was a Field Coil job. Local tech replaced it with a Bandmaster OT, and a regular speaker. Still,,,, It's a great-sounding amp. Top of the line back then I've heard.

I bought an outfit similiar to your fourth picture down in 1943 from the So.Calif. Music Co. on Hill Street in downtown Los Angeles, Ca. This was the last of this Combo they had due to WW2. The Combo cost $250. I had worked during School Summer Vacation as the cleanup guy in a local Machine Shop making .50 cents an hour to pay for it. I was so happy to get an Amp with a 12" speaker and enough
power to start playing in Bands. A big step up from a Student Amp with a 6" Speaker !!

Billy so good to read your experience. 500 hours work to save for the combo and I bet it was worth every second of your labour. Apparently they were originally called EH150 because the retail price for the combo was $150 in the 30s for an Electric Hawiian professional level setup. I am happy my pic bought back some fond memories for you. Thanks for sharing.
