I have the opportunity at the moment to purchase a Rosewood mica S12 Sierra (not keyless) With the modular (removable/interchangable) pickup. It is 4pedals 5 knees. I just wanted to get into extended e9 or possible a 6/9 tuning and think this seems like a good way to go. The guitar is in great shape. I have only played a sierra s12 when I first started out and liked it, but then again I liked anything other than the maverick I was playing at the time. Please let me know what your opinions are of this guitar, bearing in mind that I don't know the year or the model exactly but im guessing its a session s12. The main reason Im interested is the price point. The steel in great shape, a like new peavey nashville 400, and a Goodrich Low boy volume pedal all for $1000.00 in my neck of the woods!
Can't really go wrong can I?
Thanks for your feedback.

Sounds like an amazing deal to me. The amp alone should be worth close to $400 and the volume pedal around $100. So that leaves about $500 for the S12 in "great shape"?? Grab it! _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Thanks for the input Jim I think I am defenitly going to but I just wanted to hear from all the forumites to see if there is anything to stay away from in sierra guitars. Or things to look for for that matter.

One of the finest built guitars at one time like nothing else of that day [or today maybe], about 50 years ahead with all the nice tight tolerances that they all now do. If you look at sho-bud undercarriage and look at a Sierra, it's like a ford tractor vs a space rocket and that's not an insult. It will sound how you make it sound, EQ that baby up how you like it! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Okay, just don't wait too long, unless they're holding the guitar for you. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Sierra's are excellent guitars. Very well built. I had a Crown for a few years and was impressed. Worse case scenerio: Even if it's not your cup of tea, a Sierra in good shape you'll come out ahead for the value without a doubt. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

the guitar is worth at least as much as the price of the whole package.
The only drawback is the weight; they are a little hefty.
They play good, and have a good tone. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I've played a Crown Gearless for years and found it to be mechanically better than anything I've seen. The only downside is their weight. |

I have in person heard one and it sounded great and I have heard nothing but good things about them. |

Aircraft aluminum covered with mica? Wood necks? One's I've owned or worked on were all heavy. I've always preferred guitars with a hard maple body but that's a good price. |

Unless there's some type of major problem with the guitar, I agree - you can't go wrong with that deal. But if it's OK, y'all better jump before someone beats you to the punch line.
Yes, they are a little heavy, but so are a lot of other makes. Solid as a rock, and sound good to my ears. A friend now has the S10 in my avatar, I still have my 14-string. |

Sierra pedal steels are real workhorses. They are heavy. Easy to work on and change copedents, as there is a lot of space underneath. I played a Sierra Crown for about 15 years as my main instrument, gigging 1-nighters every weekend. It never let me down. Then I switched to a Sierra Session - same story. The feel of the pedals is excellent.
To me, the only downside is size and weight. I've switched to smaller, lighter instruments in recent years, but lightweight guitars are more fragile. I feel like I have to be a lot more careful with them. I had no such worries when I played a Sierra. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Sierra's are built like tanks
esthetically, i don't necessarily like them, BUT, they are quite reliable

Here's my Sierra in action from a few days ago. It wasn't her fault...
