The owner's manual says:
Moving parts are designed to need no lubrication or have been sufficiently lubricated at the factory to last the lifetime of the guitar.

Do you really do nothing to maintain the changers ?

We have a 2 1/2 year old Expo S-10 and have not had to do any lubrication, yet.

GFI Ultra for 3 years. Only thing is cleaned the balls on the pedal and a small drop on it. Nothing else that I can think of. GFI is the guitar you buy to play and play and play. Gene has done a wonderful job.

My GFI Ultra Sd10 keyless need a touch of grease in those nylon pedal connectors to prevent squeaking, but higher up it doesn't need any lubrication and probably never will.

The solid keyhead nut does have a tendency to cause hysteresis for not entirely new strings, and it has almost as much body-drop detuning as my MSA S12 Uni, but otherwise it is an excellently built instrument.

I also have a GFI keyless. I've never had to do anything to it but play it. I love this guitar.

I asked Bob at GFI about this and he said it's perfectly OK to use lube if you need it. I was worried it would deteriorate the cross-rod bearings - he said it wouldn't.

I had to use white lithium grease on the pedal rod to pedal connectors because they began to squeak. I also use TriFlow on the changers; it seems to keep them returning smoothly. Also TriFlow on the roller nuts.

Mine's a 2009 D10 Ultra. If yours doesn't need it that's great.

I'm a lube fanatic who never uses oil - only dry Teflon - and I've lubed every steel I've ever owned EXCEPT my Ultra. Funny, but I've never even thought about it - the thing still plays like butter after about 5 years of use and makes absolutely no noise.

As some of you may know I have been scouring the forms in search for my first steel. I have gotten a lot of great advise and spent more than a few hours on the phone with a few here. I am pretty amased and thankfull for all the helpful advise, things to look for, opinions and just good guidence. I finally pulled the trigger on a GFI expo (black) while it was over what I had hoped or thought I would spen, I am pretty darn stoked. I am a banjo player, upright bass player and have been playing dobro for a few years--I never thought I would get bit by the steel bug. Just want to thank every one for helping a newbe with tips, guidence and good thoughts. Now I just gotta learn to play the darn thing....any one know a player in Memphis?
