Courtesy of JD Walters, I recently heard cuts from a brand new Hank Thompson recording. JD did the mixing and all the stand-out steel work on the CD, which was recorded in his studio. Especially considering how long ol' Henry William Thompson's been around (I won't mention his age), he still sounds great, and the CD should be a keeper, judging by tunes like "The Things I Didn't Do," Stuart Hamblin's "My Mary," and a Brazos Valley Boys instrumental, "Satin Doll." It's called "Hank Thompson, My Personal Favorites."

Hank promised to leave his Gibson Super 500 to me if I'd plug the CD -- (not!!) -- so you might want to keep an eye out for it on his website: www.hankthompson.com. It's scheduled for release on October 25th.

I dident know Hank was still recording. I was playing steel for the warm-up band in 1961 in Albuquerque, at the civic center on the show with Hank. Bobby Garret was playing steel for Hank. At the time I had a Magnatone amp with two 12s in it. Iset it on stage and cranked it up for a sound check and it bubbled, and gurgled, so bad Bobby came out on stage and said what was that???? I said that was my amp, and he said you cant play through that thing, thats terrible. He told me to plug into his amp and use it. He had a brand new Standel/w black tuck and roll leather. Man that was quite an amp. But it told on me. It showed up every mistake I made, but it sure was nice. I still Have pictures of me and Hank and Bobby standing on stage. They are some wonderful memories. S o Im looking foward to getting his new CD. Thanks for letting us know about it.

I recently played a show with Morrie Sullivan, Hank's band leader. I got a chance to listen to their new CD, and it is really great. A classy CD.

I received an advance copy of this fantastic CD and will be using each and every cut on my "Swingin' West" radio show for the entire world to hear on www.swinginwest.com In addition, in the review section of that web site you can find a review that I wrote of this new CD treasure. J.D. Walters is at peak form on steel.
