I have it on a record. Great project for sure. Weldon Myrick is the only one still living and what a steel player he is. I sure miss Hal Rugg and Sonny Burnett. I never really heard Sonny play much but Hal Rugg could for evermore play.

When I was starting out playing in Michigan I used to go outside on my breaks to the parking lot to listen to the Opry on atmospheric skip, and marvel at their three part harmony string section lines (among all the other steel goodness!) When I went to Newman's first advanced/teachers class, he took us to the Opry and introduced us to those three wunderkinds. I asked Hal how they pulled off those harmony strings on the fly, and he sat me down right between he and Weldon, they turned on their Bosstones, and he said "here's how we do it. Weldon, take the root, I'll take the third... and we just go from there."
One of many wonderful steel memories for me. What a team!
And yes, it's a great record!

I bought that LP many moons ago when it came out. Really like their version of City Lights on that one. If it is out on CD I have got to have it. Very Happy

Steve Hinson, I sure hope I am wrong about Sonny Burnett. All these men were very good players for sure.

It is one of my all time favorite recordings! It was and still is an inspiration to me. For those interested the CD can be purchased by visiting the Products page on Weldon's website. Here's a link:

I saw on this forum that Sonny Burnette died years ago...I have lived within a mile of him ever since he has moved to Center Hill lake.....please inform them that Sonny passed away this week...I talked with his daughter Andrea, and he didn't want any funeral services. I guess it will not be in the news or anything. since Sonny was a very private man..... Thanks so much...

There's a remembrance in the Gone Home section of the forum.
