I have a 60's era gold lacquer Student Model that I just got back from Mike Cass. All I can say is "Wow!". It had 3 home made KL in addition to the 1 factory lever. Mike added 3 Emmons levers (reusing some parts) and basically rebuilt the whole undercarriage. She plays like dream and sounds fantastic. It wasn't cheap, but considering the parts, work, and superb craftsmanship it was an amazing bargain! Additionally, Mike has spent hours on the phone with me helping me tweak things for my 6'4" frame. Great guy! _________________ Emmons Student Model 3x4,Twin Reverb with JBL's, clams galore! |

These pics don't really tell the story of how much dirt, CRUD, bubble gum, and baling wire was holding this thing together.

Hey Robert... if you can would you post some pics of the spectator sides of this thing. It would be really neat to know what the axe looks like.
Thanks _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

Here is a link to a YouTube video of my teacher showing 1-4 progressions before the refurb. The front side looks mostly the same. Good lesson for beginners, too! Brian Wilke is the teacher and plays around Chicago a lot.

The Emmons Student models are pretty cool guitars. I have one, white mica, 4 knee levers, installed and set up by Tommy Cass. It's pretty much set up like my other guitars, I raise both the 1st and 2nd string and lower the 6th on RKL. Not the most refined looking steel guitar, but it plays great and has the Emmons sound. And only weighs 38 pounds in the case! |

I know this is steel-guitar-heresy but I think Emmons student models have the best push-pull tone. Yeah, I use a D10 on the job but it's only because I want the back neck available.
I have a student model set up right next to me as I type this. I use it for practice. |

Thanks for the posts, guys. Yes, a little plain vanilla looking, but I kinda like the gold paint job. The light weight is great, too. There is a lot of music in this small package.
As for the lessons, I have started a thread in Steel on the Web and will post a few from time to time.

Robert,
Im glad that youre satisfied with my efforts, and I too think that the Emmons student model guitars have to be one of, if not the best guitar of its kind available, especially for the $$.
It was pretty rough to begin with, but I was happy with the final result. I wish Id known how tall you are though! My bad for not asking.
I did notice in one pic that the LKR activator rod is laying at an angle....Fed-Ex strikes again. Call me and we'll correct that, forthwith.
sincerely,
Mike Cass

Thanks, Mike. I've been busy, but will call over the weekend when I am at the studio. I may have knocked that rod a bit when tweaking the knee lever. _________________ Emmons Student Model 3x4,Twin Reverb with JBL's, clams galore! |

I had one of those that i made 3 levers for, i put a Mullen fretboard on it...It was all i had at the time before i went to a sho-bud! It used to jump around a lot and walk away from me when i jumped on the pedals, but it was a beauty to carry! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Yeah, my only possible complain would be "TOO light", except that after Mike's set-up, the KL work so much easier that it's not a problem for me anymore. I still lust after a D10 tho... _________________ Emmons Student Model 3x4,Twin Reverb with JBL's, clams galore! |
