I was good to see all my friends at the Kansas Steel Show. Seems to me all the players are getting better every time I go to that show. I finally got the chance to bring two of my old band members to the show.
It was a pleasure to again work with Gary Adkins of Conway, Arkansas and Donnie Tummons of Springfield, Missouri. I was so inspired by listening to Bobby Flores in St. Louis, I decided to do hard core country 4/4 shuffles. We loved John Terry's fiddle playing. Oh yes, when John Terry sang, "Undo The Right" it curled everyone's hair-absolutely wonderful! I had a lot of FUN !!! Thanks to everyone that was so nice to my wife and I. I got a copy of Mike McGee's new CD--This CD contains some truely great steel guitar playing.

Hey, what's that guy doing with his shoes off? I would like to mention the great singers who performed on the show. Rob Parker, Dewayne Bowman, John Terry, The Hanleys and many more great singers. I noticed Rob Parker taking notes when Gary Adkins was singing. Gary told me Rob ask if Gary had written the song, "How Long Is Forever This Time?" Gary, said "No, that is a Willie Nelson song." If you want to hear the best version of that song ever recorded, get Bobby Flores's CD. By the way Rob, Gary, Donnie, and myself hand picked all the Texas 4/4 shuffle tunes we did. Rob Parker has never received the credit he should have for his great singing ability. In my opinion Rob Parker is one of the greatest singers to every hit a stage. He is on the same level as Ray Price, and Bobby Flores, and that says it all. Rob, thank you so much for sharing your great talent.

I spent 2 years playing steel and lead for Gary.... and Gary I gotta tell you.. You ain't getting any prettier....hahahaha
I'll bet you sounded just like Willie, though. You HAD to have a clothes pin on your nose when Keith took his shoes off.

John, when we took the stage we were not taking any hostages! The bluegrass players stick to what they like, reguardless of what the rockers like and don't like. We are like the Bluegrass people in that respect. We did one Texas 4/4 shuffle right after the other, no pauses. Steel Guitar, fiddle, drums, bass, with strong vocal. Gary said he had about 15 people who ask for his autograph once we left the stage, and that kind of surprised Gary. It told me all I needed to know. Donnie Tummons has gone to extreme lenghts to get the right bass equipment. The old Ampeg tube head he used must weigh over 100 pounds. That was a special 15 inch bass speaker also. Most said the bass sounded like a stand-up bass only cleaner.
