Newbie in need of some help with what I think are pretty basic questions. I have a 1970's? BMI, which I am really happy with:

I need to replace this part (I'm holding it open on the first picture):

Am I correct in calling this a 180 degree ball joint, and are these pretty standard, or is this something I need to get directly from BMI? I saw on their website that they sell pedal rods for $10. I do not know if the pedal rods they sell include the ball joint assembly or if they would work on a guitar this old. The pedal rods that I have are by themselves 24 and 5/16".

Here's how it connects to the pedal:

Here's the rod (works fine), some kind of connector from the ball joint to the pedal rod (what do you call the second thing - is it an extender, or is it a common part of the assembly?), and the part I need:

Here's a shot of the threading on the rod and a nut that fits the threading:

Also for fun, any opinions on these guitars or their value?

I didn't see this post, but I posted some info over on Steel Players on your other thread you have running.

I think Don B. at BSG can help if that's a standard thread count... He's got them up on his site...

Thanks, Jerry! I posted it here after the first response I got on the steel players index once I realized this section was for mechanical issues.

Even dumber question - how to measure the thread count?

I don't know BMI's, but if you are going to call them, you can ask Don or Dan. They will know. Most steels use 10-32. Pretty standard size. If you have a way to measure the rod, a #10 rod will measure 3/16".

The thread count is Threads per Inch. Never seen anything but a 32 TPI [national fine] count on a #10 pedal rod.

I had already talked to one of the sales guys, and he was super friendly, but suggested I talk to the owner to make sure I get what I want. I liked hearing, "Welcome to the BMI family." First impression: a real stand-up operation.

Take the rod, or the end, to a hardware store. they have a board with a bunch of threaded holes and a bunch of assorted bolts sticking out.
Only one size will fit and thread more than a half turn.

Got a 10 32 180 degree connector on the way, so I'll find out soon enough. I posted same question in the wrong section, and one of the guys sounded pretty confident that was all I needed. Also inquiring with bmi. It looks very likely that I can get originals from them. Thanks for everyone's help. This is a great forum. I feel slightly less stupid after learning more about the mechanics of these things.
