Hello Vincent, these are the chords on standard guitar.
I'm not sitting at my steel, but since it's in E, the starting point is at the fourth fret. It has mostly pedals 5 and 6, and for the augmented (not sure if it's an augmented at all), there's another pedal, which sounds identical to the recording.
Enough for now, I will post the postions on the Psg neck for each chord later if you want.

Intro: G F# F E, E/////// A7/////// E/////// A///////

---------------E-----------C#7----------
Well I'm goin' down to the river
-----------C7-------B7----E---------
I've got a canepole in my hand
E-------------------------C#7-----------F#7----B7---
I've got my redworms in a Maxwell house coffee can
E---------G#7------------------------A--------------
I'm gonna sit under ashade tree on a riverbank where
-----A-augm.-----
it's cool
A-augm.---E-----------------C#7---------------F#7---

-------E--------------C#7-------------------F#7-----
And on Saturday night we'll have a dance or two we
--------------------B7----
might waller in the hay
--------E--------------------G#7--------------
Now the only thing that ever whipped my pa
---------A7--------------A-augm.----
Was this bad dude called old age
--------E------------------C#7---------
And his last years was his best years
----F7--------------B7-----E-----
And this is what he had to say

E-------A-------------------------A-augm.---------
He said boy I've worked this dirt all my life but
E--------------------------------------
things ain't been good for awhile
E-------------F#7-----------------------------------
Why don't you move to the city make a little money
----B7-----------C7

The family ever to die with a smile

-------E----------------------G#7--------
Well I took his advice things goin' well
-------A-------------------A-augm.--------

Whoever said a city boy can't have the country blues
----E----------C#7------------F7---------------B7----

Please tell me what you played so far for the intro, Vincent. So we can run through the song step by step.

Normally it starts on fret 7 (G), then fret 6 (F#), Fret 5 (F) and finally fret 4 (E). The E to A7 you'll get when you go from the 4th fret (no pedal) to the 7th with pedal 5 engaged. You can use any string group you like, just avoid string nine and one.
Compare your timing to the record, 'til it's right.
