So I have an early 80's MSA/Micro Inc. Classic, I purchased it about a month ago and it is my first steel. I decided to change the copedent from the stock MSA one which has backwards and slightly different knee levers as compared to a normal Emmons style steel (without the vertical B to Bb change) so I could just learn and not have to relearn. Do any MSA players/experts here know what I'll need and where to get those parts? I figure I'll need a few new pull rods and maybe some new pulls? I don't really know, but I know it's a stock MSA Classic 3x4 setup and it's serial number is 1C5549 if that helps anyone. |

You will probably get more help if you list what your setup is now and what you want to have when you are done. Ant pics of the underside of the guitar will help also. There's a guy on the forum name Michael Yahl that makes parts for MSA's.

So I don't quite know how to find a copedent generator but I'll try in text. Also to clarify, the pedals are fine, I'm just trying to get the knee levers to some sort of standard configuration.
I've had a few changes made with what I have available so I'm halfway there, this is my current copedent:
LKL: Raises only string 4 to F.
LKR: Drops string 4 and 8 to Eb.
RKL: Drops string 5 to Bb.
RKR: Drops string 2 to D and string 9 to C#.
Also, the head of the screw holding down the pickup snapped for no reason and I'm using a notecard to wedge up the treble side of the pickup, I know this thing is a mess right now. Where can I find that screw and how do I get the part of it that's headlessly stuck in my guitar out?

You're well on your way. The only suggestions I have is to add a pull to your LKL on string 8 to pull it to F also. RKR should lower to C# and have a half stop to stop it at D. You can accomplish this by trying to time the pull on string 9 to start pulling at the same time the second string gets to D. Or, Michael Yahl has a half stop assembly on his website that would probably be easier to add and have a more positive stop at the right spot. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Ditto to what Richard Sinkler said.
I would also suggest that you find another tuning rod and rod puller (aka bellcrank) for your RKL, and have that lever:
1. raise string 1 from F# to G, and either...
2. raise string 7 from F# to G, OR...
3. lower string 6 from G# to F#.
These are the more common changes for RKL. Your B-Bb change on s.5 is next in line, and usually found on a vertical lever. But there are those that do have the B-Bb change where you have it. So it's simply my suggestion based on my experience as a 4-decade player and teacher.
This being the Forum, I'm sure that there are those here that would vociferously disagree with me, so I'll state that the above suggestion is JMHO.
That vintage of MSA is a very good one, so you probably have a fine guitar there. Congrats. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Another vote for Michael Yahl here. Michael is a super, genuine guy who makes high quality parts. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Personally, I'd add the 8th string pull to LKL, and leave RKL alone until you gather enough familiarity with steel to know you're missing it.
I carry Herb's 1&3 on a vertical.
Michael Yahl sells MSA parts, you'll need two bellcranks, one pair of pullrods, a set of barrel pulls, a pair of spacers and a pack of his shortest tuning nuts. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
