Hi guys, I am one of the original believers that the name steel guitar was the orignal and correct identifier of the instrument. Every name folowing was identifying a segment of the evolution of the instrument.
However, for the new players of the steel guitar, we need to acknowledge the existance of the new terminology of pedal steel guitar, etc.
It's difficult to explain the old way when so many new players only know the current trend. Hang on guys and girls, the right way to go will soon become evident. _________________ "FROM THEN TIL' NOW" |

At what point does the number of modifiers stop?
Back down the road a CAR with 17" wheels, air conditioning, GPS, Bose stereo, all-wheel drive, 7-speed automatic transmission and turbo-charged 3 litre V-6 engine, hit a deer. |

Thank you Lee. Visited your website and those "West Coast Ramblers" recordings with you on steel are great. Your western swing "styling" takes me back to my 1960's road days with the the Merl Lindsay band. _________________ "FROM THEN TIL' NOW" |

Thank you Gene, that is certainly high praise.
Did you do studio recordings with Lindsay's band ?

And yet, it's still just called a car, anything else would be redundant and silly. But then I have a number of non-ashtray steels, so sensibility be damned. |

Lee, to answer your question (and my apology to the thread for topic drift).
No, Merl didn't do any commercial recordings of his band while I was working for him.
The band recorded demo's for others at Merl's studio at "Lindsayland", and there were some bandstand tapes that we used at rehearsals to work on arrangements, but it was just work and I wasn't interested in saving anything. I wish I had! _________________ "FROM THEN TIL' NOW" |

When folks ask what my lap steel is at a show...I still like to call it "A manual pitch approximator". It makes em go....hmmmmm.... |

Well, my collection just got a big boost. I have a leaded crystal guitar, a delrin guitar, bronze guitar, MDF nylon guitar and about a dozen or fifteen steel guitars. I need me some bones.... |
