Am wondering if anyone has used or heard a Lace Tone Bar 10 and is the Lace Aluma tone the same animal? Or would anyone rather use a George L instead. Can't get much from the manufacturers site!

Rob,
Be aware that the pickup cavity can be very narrow on a Kline. You might need to do some serious modifications to have a replacement pickup fit.

From what Bob says about the size of the pickup, it may be better to send it to Jerry Wallace and have him rewind it. You wouldn't have to worry about trying to customize a different pickup to fit or trying to enlarge the pickup cavity in the guitar.

For sure, measure the cavity before ordering. To bad Joe Kline couldn't rewind it. Those pickups, at least the ones in the Kline I had, were killer pickups. It,s been 13 years since I sold my Kline, and I still miss it. But if Jerry could rewire it to the original specs, you would have a great pickup.

I would check with Jim Palenscar and see what he has around. He may have something that will fit in his box of old pickups.

Besides the pickup cavity issue you need to be aware of how the pickup is mounted. It can be a real problem also.

There may be a guitar tech/ pickup builder near to you that you could work with to make sure everything works right.

Thanks for all of the input..hadn't thought about the size..but nothing is standard anymore! And Richard I wouldn't trade my Kline for a new anything! I've had it over 35 years..a double 10 with 8 and 7...a fellow that worked with Joe built it for himself, then wanted to try something else so sold this one to me for a song!! Before it I had a Fender with cables "HA" and before that a Multichord "two HA's" so the Kline has been my friend for a long time! Thanks again to all!

B J Cole has now put a Truetone pickup on his Kline. He raves about it. Having heard it myself it seems to suit the Kline well. Dave.

Do whatever you have to do to retain and re-use the original Kline pickup. Just my opinion, but a well-founded one. Those were killer pickups and gave those guitars an awesome tone. A near choice would be a George L's 10-1. Not the same, but plenty "warm" anyhow.
Bill Rudolph at Williams Guitars might rewind the Kline pickup for you as he does have the proper equipment and materials.

Rewind that puppy! Me? I'd go to Jason lollar. I've had great luck with him for new pups, and rewinds. He wrote the Bible of pickup work.
