Bob,
I don't think so.
Was there a song called "Steelin' Home"?

Very similar to SGR, but I also don't think so, unless Bobby just did his own take on the song, which knowing Bobby as I do, is extremely possible.

If I am not mistaken, the verse for SGR is 1, 4, 1, 5, 1...

This song is going 1, 4, 5, 1 ...

The chorus (or bridge) is the same as SGR.

If it is not SGR, it's close enough for a copyright challenge.

Richard,
The verse of SGR was written as: 1-1-1-5-1.
Later on in the '60's I think, some of the swing players made that 3'rd 1 a 4, but as originally written, the 4 chord was not there. Surprised
The name of the tune in question is "Steelin' Home" which is a lot more simular to "Georgia Steel Guitar" than SGR.

Sounds like "Steelin' Home" to me. Look for the Noel Boggs version. In fact, didn't Noel write that song?

This instrumentl was written and recorded by Noel Boggs prior to 1950 and was named STEELIN' HOME. I believe that Noel was playing with Hank Penny when he wrote it (could be wrong). The rendition on this post sounds like a live broadcast, but can't tell who it might be !

In later years Noel also recorded it with the big Spade Cooley orchestra !

Bobby. You are right about SGR chord structure. I learned SGR from a Buddy Merrill album and it was as you posted it. Later others were playing it the way I posted it and I kind of just followed suit. I personally prefer it as it was written.

That Buddy Merrill clip was great. Thanks. Was he in the 5th grade when that was filmed? Laughing

If you are talking about the original post, it is Bobby Black.

Definitely "Steelin' Home", played a little faster than the original. It's similar to some others but the bridge is a dead give away.

And here you have it.

`PLEASE NOTE its 1973 Denver ready to play a fill in tune at the old "Ebbett's Field" here's the conversation...me to bob....
- 'Hey bobby, play steel guitar rag!!"
"okay 1-2-1-2-3-4......" and you have the result - so if you don't think this is steel guitar rag bring it up with bobby black as I have been playing along to THIS tune for 50 years OK? end of discussion......................`

Methinks the Good Commander disagrees.

As many times as Joaquin Murphey played the theme song on WCKY he would be disappointed in you.
