Ok, I know I'm opening up a can of worms here, but maybe you can help me out of my dilemna. I am trying to lighten the load and am going to some MB200 amps and neo speakers. Certainly back savers. But I expect (don't know yet, still waiting on my speaker enclosures) I am not going to be too pleased with the sound. I expect the sound to be a bit on the brittle side and I love the fat tube smoothness. I don't know if this is gonna be the case, but I'm preparing myself anyway. I expect what I need is a tube preamp. I see these things from the under $50 ART boxes to the stratospheric audiophile stuff for thousands. I see a lot of guys opt for the Sarno. So the question is this: Just how much am I gonna have to spend to get a pretty good sounding tube pre? Will the cheaper ones serve or is Sarno quality essential? This is kind of funny - my favorite PSG amp (for sound) is the Session 500 - and it's solid state...so?? Help? |

...and check out the GK 'Fusion' amp...it has a tube front end...I like mine and has a little more power than the MB200...(and I have needed that power during loud concerts!) |

I have a Goodrich Matchbox 7A. Not a tube driven box, but a nice sustainer with drive and tone controls that attaches to the leg of the guitar, and designed for use w/ the PSG. |
