The show I'm on has some tour dates in the LA area coming up, and I'm always up for hookin' up with other steelplayers -
On this show I'll be behind the 'upright steel', a Fender D-8 with nary a pedal to 'mash'.
Lemme hear from ya . . .

I just spent a wonderful 2 days with Russ at my store in Oceanside and we had a ball. I also stole all his Don Helms licks and have taken over his position at the show . Russ is as nice a guy as anyone would ever care to meet and was so generous with his voluminous knowledge about music with me that I am in his debt- and looking forward to seeing the show on Sunday! |

Dear Russ, Sounds like you have that booking agent that uses the yardstick method of booking. Make a mark on the map of the USA where you played tonight and another at the other end where you play tomorrow night. Have a safe trip and come to Illinois some time.

Bobby - You're makin' me Hon-gry - I can smell that Meat Loaf from here!
Duane - I'm touring 'til May but hope to swing by next summer.
Jim - You and Karen sure make a visitor feel right at home. Thanks for all the fun!
Just don't take my Gig Ha, ha!
For everyone in the San Diego/Los Angeles territory, Jim has recently opened a 'Steel Guitars of North County' in Oceanside. Twenty-some pedalsteels, a dozen or so non-peds, amps, accessories, lessons, service and in-house custom parts fabrication. Everything ya need right there.

Well, I was there last night and it was great. LA steeler Jordan Shapiro was there too. The show was a real treat. Jason does a great Hank Williams, and also pays tribute to the artists who influenced Hank (Jimmy Rodgers, Ernie Tubb...) and the ones who were influenced by him (Possum, etc...)
Russ's playing was smooth, sweet, and generallly fabulous, and as the band leader, he kept the whole thing seemingly effortless and groovy.
We also had a great time hanging out with him and the band before and after the show. All super nice guys. These cats travel in style, I might add--very nice tour bus.
So a great evening of steel and overall fun. If the show comes to your area, don't miss it.
Russ, thanks again for setting everything up. Now, I can't wait to see you on pedals!!!

Stephan,
Thanks for the kind words and generous 'review'. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the show.
It was my pleasure to hook up with you and Jordan.
Today Mike Perlowin took me around town and we went over to Riverside and visited with Blackie Taylor at his music store. Thanks Mike.

I didn't catch the show, but it was really nice just being able to spend a few hours with Russ without the distractions of the convention.
The convention is more than a place full of great music. It's a place to meet friends from other parts of the country or world that you can only see there.
For me, seeing these friends is now more important than seeing the performers or hearing the music.
But of course there is always so much going on that it's hard to spend any quality time with any one person.
Yesterday Russ and I really had a chance to talk for a few hours. Sometimes we talked abojt steels guitar, sometimes we talked about other stuff. It was a really nice afternoon.
Russ please come back, and next time, stay for a few days. OK? |

If any of you have the opportunity to see the show- be sure and grab it! The show is terrific and the music is superb. Russ and the band do a fine job of recreating the music and Jason is a great storyteller- a can't miss in my book~~ Thanks Russ! |

Now we head back down south for performances in Lancaster and Santa Clarita where I'll hook up with some of Groove Holmes family before heading to Las Vegas.
