Hi, I just found a great version of this song on youtube on a home made lap steel. I don't know how to post a link or I would. If someone could I think it would great. It may have already been posted but I don't remember seeing it. Great playing and tone!
Thanks Dennis

If that isn't THE one, I'm sure glad you posted it, William!
Whoever steeljazz is, he employs perfect technique and taste, just wonderful. I'm a fan! |

Wonderful!
I really like both the tone and aesthetics of his guitar too.
That type of lap steel is exactly what I'm looking for in a next build.
Hope he posts here. |

I like the way you used that low C tuning-- nice picking!
Congrats on the build as well...looks sweet. |

Jerry - That's a beautiful performance. And at the very end, with what seems to be total nonchalance, you reach for your coffee cup. I love it! Thanks for sharing that. Jiminy Cricket would be proud. |

Jerry,
Would you mind revealing a few specs on the guitar?
Scale length?
String spacing?
Neck solid or with cavity?
Is top one piece of maple?
sockets underneath for legs?
Sounds to me like you found the Pickup sweet spot concerning distance from the bridge. Distance?
You're also a fabulous player BTW. |

Thanks again!
Jim,
Here is the thread I posted a few months ago, after just completing the guitar, which I think answers most of your questions, and has photos:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=208655&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
The link to the sound file in that thread takes you to a bigger file than the YouTube version, takes longer to load, but the sound quality is much better. I hadn't posted it to YouTube at that time.
The short answer, without having to read through all that, is that the scale length is 23". it's three pieces, body, neck and keyhead. No legs for now but it might have in the future. It's something that I built to experiment with, but it turned out such that I have just left it alone, except for changing the pickup to an Alumitone recently.
In addition to the YouTube, for those who haven't already heard them, I have a couple more on Soundcloud that feature that same guitar (except for Lush Life, which is pedal steel).

I'm currently working out some design ideas for a double eight, so stay tuned (but don't hold your breath, it's probably a long-term project...).

Thanks, Bill! Brian, the tuning is C13, as used by Hawaiian players such as Barney Isaacs. Low to high- C Bb C E G A C E. I find the low C useful for a lot of things. |

Hi
Till Jerry records something on his new Double 8 this is still one of my favorite lap steel songs. Beautiful guitar and playing.
