For learning, this is the value in Erv’s gospel tab service. You learn to use the A and B pedals plus the two main knee levers in one short recognizable song for $1.00. That’s not bad bad deal. It would be even better if an mp3 file was offered for an additional dollar or more to show exactly how the tab is supposed to sound. Another advantage to learning a gospel tune is that much of country music was derived out of music played in church. So the gospel song being learned is the root of a lot of other stuff.

James,
Thank you for the nice posting.
Yes, you are correct, I try to make every tab a short learning lesson.
The nice thing about learning the pedal steel via gospel music is the Holy Spirit is standing over your shoulder helping you along. He loves to hear you making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Very Happy

That was a good idea James had about a mp3 file to see what it should sound like. Do you have any? I have some of your tabs, witch are great, but I wonder
if I'm playing it right. Also email me the list of gospel tabs.
Where can I hear some of your style of playing?

Teddy,
I'm sorry but I don't have anything to offer in the audio file department. When I started doing gospel tabs, I just assumed that the songs I was tabbing were familiar enough that the players would know what they were supposed to sound like. All my tabs follow the melody as closely as possible along with the added harmony. I have some gospel BIAB backup tracks but that's the best I can come up with. Very Happy

PS: Send me your e-mail address and I will send you a list of my gospel tabs. It numbers over a thousand now.

Hi Erv,

Could you email me the updated list too? It's been a while since the last one.

Thanks much,

Dickie
