Hi, I have a regal resonator guitar and I want to change the cone and cover plate. Please look at these cones on ebay and tell me if they'll fit my guitar. Is there just one standard size? Thanks, Don

Those are for a biscuit bridge guitar, not a spider bridge guitar. Without knowing the model of the Regal you own, it's hard to say, but my guess is they will not fit your guitar. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Hi Brad,
I don't know the model name of my Regal but it is old and cheap and has the kind of tuning keys that stick straight up with two long holes in the head stock like on a classical guitar. Also the cover plate measures 11 1/8" across and has four "peacock" fan shapes cut in it for design. Does that tell you anything? Thanks, Don

Don i assume you are talking about a wood body. or is it a metal body reso, and its a square neck.if its a wood body square neck. like brad said that one your looking at on ebay. is not what you need.also take a ruler and messure across the cone, some of those are 109/16 across anyway if you need any help drop a line |

Hi Will, Yes it is a wood body square neck. I'd have to take the cover plate off to measure the cone and right now I'm too lay to do that. Its late. If the cone is 10 9/16" across or not do you know where I can get new or even used replacement parts? I want to get the loudest resonator I can get. I mostly play acoustically with this instrument and I often find myself picking as hard as I can just to be heard. Thanks, Don |

Don you can get cones and every thing you need at Beard Guitars. Stew-Mac guitar parts. Allen Resonators. Elderly instruments or just about most of the vendors on our forum links under builders. just get a good spun aluminum cone. so that should get you fixed up. |

I recently bought an old Regal and put a Smith and Young cone in it because the old one was sort of 10 1/2 inches. I still had to route out the hole bigger and I also leveled off the ledge. The existing hole might not be centered on the ledge so figure your routing accordingly. Take your time and only take a little bit with each pass as it its easy to catch the router bit and take out too much. The guitar still sounds crappy.

There’s a Reso builder in this area that has come up with drop in ring to modify old Reso’s -- Regal / Johnson etc.-- and they come out sounding grate - below is a U-tube with this ring installed in one of his guitars -- what he does to modify a old Reso is to make a plywood pattern of the hole you want to cut in the guitar and clamp it in place and cut the hole to fit the ring -- sound well removed -- and the cone has a 100 % contact with the ring --- give it a listen & look
