Wayne Appleby
Inducted into Australian Steel Guitar Hall of Fame
Last night, musician Wayne Appleby was inducted into the 2012 Australian Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
The thirteenth recipient of the impressive honour Wayne Appleby’s lengthy career spanning some forty years is duly captured on the plaque which was presented last night in Brisbane. He is the first Tasmanian pedal steel player to receive recognition by the steel guitar fraternity in Australia.

Many of the inductees have long and reputable careers shaping history and biographies on the awards web page.
Fellow players, US expat who moved to Australia in the 70s Pee Wee Clark and Sydney-sider Graham Griffith were also recognised.
The distinguished elevation adds to the inclusion amongst other highly recognised players Kenny Kitching and George Xanthos 2007, Warren Nielson and Norm Bodkin2008, Benny Joyner and Jack Pichards 2009, Noel Anstead and Michel Rose2010, and in 2011 New Zealand’s Paddy Long.

True, Shotgun! However, this is a well-deserved award...you have earned it, in my opinion, as much as the guys back in North America who have been enshrined in the International SGHOF. We all love our instruments, but without the great players to look up to and learn from, those of us who don't play this wonderful instrument full time don't have as much to strive for. So, while it is about the instrument, it's about the players too!!! |
