Any one heard of High Base Tuning. I remember years ago, I mean many years ago. There was a High Base tuning I used once in a while. I think I was playing in eather "E' or "E7th" tuning. It has been so long ago I don't remember what it was. Am I dilusional? [please don't answer that, though you may think it] or was there a High Base Tuning? |

Back in the 50's, My first guitar teacher also played Steel and Dobro. He said that the A major high base tuning (E C# A E C# A) was "the best" for lap steel and dobro. I use that same tuning today except with an 8 string guitar, I add the F# note to make it an A6 tuning.
The Jerry Byrd Steel Guiter Course starts off with the high base A major tuning for the first few exercizes and two or three songs before moving on to E major tuning. _________________ "Shoot low boys, the're ridin' Shetlands" |
