I'm a dunce with MIDI, so I'm reaching out to experts:
I love my new-to-me M-One XL with my new Stereo Steel. But I want to have some patches that bring in overdrive and other FX from other rack gear. Is that possible with MIDI, or some other way? I also have an Eleven Rack, so chaining these two together should give me all the sounds I need...if that chaining is possible.
It has MIDI in, out and thru. Also S/PDIF In and Out. No effects sends and returns, unfortunately.

| It's not simple but it is possible to store a MIDI call as part of an M-One effects patch, so that when you call up a user preset it automatically sends out a MIDI call that can be read by other MIDI gear. Read your M-One manual and do some online research, you'll find there is a lot that you can do if you have the time to build the presets. |

I just learned the Eleven Rack has stereo FX send/returns; looks like if the 11R is the "main" device, I can bring in sounds from the M-One XL, correct? I just have to learn how to bring in the XL to whatever patches I use on the 11R.

| Assign the M-One a discrete MIDI receive channel and send all effects patch and parameter change calls from your master sequencer on that channel. |

I am a 'MID-idiot' but I have found that double checking the factory presets can be a good thing. Make sure the all devices are set to send and receive global MIDI parameter command changes. Some units are set to default to global off, some default to global on.
You may be able to set up a simple MIDI channel patching system so that when the M-One receives a command to go to (example only) patch #75, it goes to patch #88 instead...this allows you to match your Digi unit with already established M-One presets without having to mess up the M-One's levels and such...
It can be pretty daunting. There are some other options available as well, such as making BOTH units MIDI patch mapped slaves to a 3d party master channel driver, or using the Digi with some pedals under MIDI command pedals

Lets say you use the Eleven Rack as the "Master" and the M-One as the "Slave"... (Eleven Rack Midi Out to M-One Midi In)...Midi would be useful to send a program change message from the Master to slave so that if you call up patch #11 on The Master it would call up patch #11 on the M-One.
In this set up use the Eleven FX send to the Input of the M-One and the output of the M-One into the FX return of the Eleven. You may need to activate the FX Send/Return in the Eleven of each patch you want to behave this way.
You'd also want the Eleven Rack to be in the fx loop of the Stereo Steel..ie: Stereo Steel FX send to the input of the Eleven rack and the output of The Eleven Rack into the FX Return of the Stereo Steel. |

Now I remember why lately I've been reverting to stomp boxes! Guess I can somehow master this MIDI stuff enough to get my FX boxes to work in harmony. Wish me luck.

You can get a Voodoo Pedal Switcher to integrate your stomp boxes...

This allows you to have 4 discrete loops of the pedals of your choice, all under the same MIDI command (which you set up from the pre, Digi, and M-One...)
Not co completely confuse an already convoluted situation
