Hey everybody! A rare appearance of the Herb Steiner Quartet will be taking place at Skinny's Ballroom (San Jacinto between Cesar Chavez and 2nd) on Tuesday 6/12 from 9pm to 10:15. Joining me will be my worthy constituents Ed Friedland, Rob Harding, and John Chandler. We will be swinging... oh yes, we WILL be swinging. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

This will be a good show -- the Herbster swingin' in the steel chair with some excellent cats backing him up: Ed "the bass whisperer" Friedland, crooner and jazz picker "Cowboy Rob" Harding on guitar, and Central Texas' go-to dancehall drummer, John Chandler.

From 7:00 till 8:30 my quartet will be playing right before Herb. We have Chris Cogburn on drums , Alex Hetlinger on trombone , Aaron Allen string bass and me on steel. Last time we played in this configuration there was nothing resembling a beat happening at any time. It was wild ! Barely anything that you would call melody and definitely no chord progressions either. Surprising how much music is available without standard forms or idioms. _________________ Bob |
