Saw him last year at a fair in Green county ILLinois.

He did not have a steel player. It was hugely disappointing. It was like eating an old shoe, Really hard to get down. I was told by his bass player who I ran into a week later that it was purely economics. I would have stayed home had I known. It really left a void in his singing although he is a great singer.

He may have one tonight but don't bet on it.

LOL Fred

Doesn't make much sense if you ask me. Most of the songs Singletary has had success with have relied heavily on pedal steel. Economics or not, it isn't too bright musically not to carry a steel player. I could maybe understand Keith Urban not carrying one but Singletary with his style?? Oh Well

Economically, Daryle was getting his money's worth out the guitar/steel player in the video below. . .
I think it's Danny Mohammed:

Guys, thanks for all the replies. Just got done with an early gig myself (3-7), so am fired up to hear some good stuff....but after reading your replies, I guess I'll just have to hope for the best!!
This area (eastern Iowa) has alot of pretty darn good players....so if Darryle doesn't have one, I guess I can catch a local guy.. Very Happy Thanks again for the info.

Last August, My band Willow Creek worked two shows with Daryle at the CB Jamboree Addison NY near Corning, he had no steel player, Mike Jonhson's brother was his Bass player. It was hard for me not to jump on stage when he begain to sing "Together Again" and cut right in,but I don't think he would have like it very much Laughing
This year,August 4th.we will be back at Addison playing two shows featuring Confederate Railroad.I believe Bobby Randall works with Daryle.

He Had No Steel Player And In MY Opinion It Hurt Him, Like on Songs Like A-11. Mike Johnson's Brother Mark was with him on Bass and Did A Fantastic job on Bass And Singing, Randy Harper from Atlanta was on key board and organ, Steve Hawkins on Drums And Phil Valdez was on lead guitar, the band did a great job but it wasn't Daryle without a steel and I told him so, He said they had one, Don't quote me I thought they said Tom Killen. But the steel player was too loud, I said I thought it was Drummers that were too loud, It was still a great show and was FREE To See So it's hard to complain about that, Daryle's Still A Great Singer

I'll have to agree....it was a bit of a let down with no steel...But, that in no way detracted from the excellent musicianship of Darryl and his band members. They're all great player/singers and the show was still a top notch country event. Over the last year, I've been fortunate that one of the projects I'm involved in is a classic country (ray price, faron, porter, etc.) gig every week with some very talented guys...it's a pretty 'steel heavy' gig and as of yet I haven't gotten the word I'm being replaced with a pan flute or zither player....but I suppose it's not out of the question! Laughing
p.s. no offense to pan flute or zither players....

When we did the shows with Daryle his band was great,we all had a fun time, they hung out with us, Daryle never said a word to us stayed on the bus and afer the shows run back on the bus. We where host band,so Steve played our dummers drums,Randy our keyboard players keyboard, and there sat my steel on stage all along Crying or Very sad.

Bobby Randall is now the steel player for Confederate Railroad. He joined the band recently.
