Hi all...Just a quick question for Mr. Fox or any of you chip tweakers...

Recently ran across this old PV two-channel preamp from the 70's. I find it convenient to use two channel amps like the Fender twin i have so that i can set up a dedicated channel for th steel and the tele, so this preamp fits my bill fairly well.

It works well and built like a tank.

Only issue is that is sounds a bit dry and sterile as one wud expect.

Wondering if anyone has attempted a BB chip upgrade on one of these things, or maybe change some select caps to improve the sound?

What are the chances i wud realize a significant improvement in tone?

Thanks, Riley

If it has plug-in chips, either 4558 or 4560 types, then it could not hurt it at all. The BB OPA2134PA has a much warmer tone than either of the other ones I refered to. I have no schematic for it so I can't say what is in it.
