I've always had good luck with D'Addario Stainless.
Curt Mangan Stainless are also good, but I think they use an undersized core on their .038s, because they break halfway through their lives. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I've used the GHS Stainless for over 10 years and never had a problem with them.
I even had my Weenick steel rollers gauged for the GHS strings. _________________ Private one on one lessons available

I've always used SIT's, but it got so they wouldn't stay in tune
very long, and then I had to replace them after just a few days.
I started using GHS Professional's and what a difference it made.
They are smoother, sound better, stay in tune, and haven't had
to replace a string yet in almost 2 months so far.

I really don't understand this problem with strings.
Because of all the different guitars I have, I just buy Ernie Ball strings by the gauge. |

I just put a new set of E9 Live Steel Strings that I was able to order custom gauges for my D12 and they are excellent if not fantastic. I can defintely tell the difference and I am going to order another set for my C6 neck next week. "LiveSteel Strings" seem to have a bit more clarity and tonal qualities. _________________ Carter D12, MSA S12, 12 String Custom Made Non-Pedal, Evans FET 500LV, Evans SE200, Peavey Nashville 400, Fender Steel King |

I have no clue why strings don't work for some of you. Unless I get a bad string, they all work for me. Right now, I have GHS nickel, on my Sho~Bud, and they are great. Been on for quite awhile too. _________________ Sho-Bud LDG, Martin D28, Ome trilogy 5 string banjo, Ibanez 4-string bass, dobro, fiddle, and a tubal cain. Life Member of AFM local 142 |

I've never experienced a brand of string that's consistently bad. Yes, I've had an occasional faulty one but I'm not aware of any manufacturer who's immune from that.
I've always had good service from Danny at Jagwire and that counts for a lot with me. As long as I can get them I'll happily continue to use them. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Same here. I think the difference must be in the player. Some people have sweatier hands than others. Some people's sweat is more corrosive. Some people pick the strings harder.

I would say that in all probability the sound that a string puts out is in direct relationship to what your ear tells you. No two people hear exactly the same and hence is the difference in one steel player to another. _________________ Carter D12, MSA S12, 12 String Custom Made Non-Pedal, Evans FET 500LV, Evans SE200, Peavey Nashville 400, Fender Steel King |

I have used SIT strings on both my Sho-Bud Super Pro and Emmons Le Grand for many years (since they first came out with Emmons Stainless Steel sets). Never had any problem like you are describing, however, strings do stretch for a while, no matter how often you play.
Do you possibly have some other problems affecting the tuning, like pedal adjustments, binding fingers, nut rollers, etc. ?
Did you use some very old strings?
Thanx,
Jim |

Jim, I have heard several talk about SIT-Emmons stainless strings. Where do you find that ?

Bill,
Another item to always check when changing strings: make sure each tuning key is not loose in the key head. My Emmons has ALWAYS had a problem with that, but SHO-BUD not as often.
Thanx,

I got a set of the GHS Boomers Nickle. So far so good.
I had bought some Emmons SIT and they suck. I had some old GHS Stainless and GHS Profesional. I had used those before the Jag's. I guess they were too old.
I ordered a fresh batch of Boomers. Will keep you posted.
Del Mullen told me years ago to use GHS nickle. That was for the pre RP or HWP. Don't know about the RP or the G2. With these nickle Boomers my tone is back. _________________ Bill |

Well, I have had my Live Steel Strings on for a little bit (4 or 5 gigs now), and I am not any more impressed with them than my usual Jagwires. They are very good strings, but will probably switch back to Jags when they get caught up and settled in. By the way, my Live Steel Strings 3rd string broke on my 4th gig, a lot quicker than Jagwires. I usually change my Jagwire 3rd around the 10th gig before it breaks. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The Live Steel Strings website doesn't work on Opera for Android.
It does on Dolphin: What goofball puts music without a pause button?
