Vey good Jan. Are you using pedals? I'm keen on jazz for 6 string lap - I guess there are limitations imposed with 6 so any clues you'd care to divulge would be appreciated.

John, I couldn't imagine playing this without pedals. I raise and lower the E strings a lot, I raise the G# and B a lot too, and the others from time to time.

Thanks Jan. I guess I'm on the right track already possibly.....my 6x LS is tuned to (I think - F13) Eb,F,A,C,D,F - L to H.
i decided against C6 specifically because I want to play in the ''brass keys'' so to speak, as I come from a jazz clarinet background.
it's interesting to note that you played the ''groove'' in Eb with the E9 tuning.

For me, it's all the same. If I would use open strings (what I never do) it would be an issue. The use of open strings is nice for easy-to-play speed licks. That don't interest me very much. I like to be in control, and an open string is for me a restriction: it has to "fit" in the tune, and the slide is not in contact with the string. Does that make any sense?

Yes open strings does aid ''speed licks'' even though I'm a relative novice with SG. Your comment above, I feel would make an excellent general post. I have been amazed at the speed picking of a good number of folks who have posted videos - and whilst some of it is a blur to me - I have noticed that open strings feature reasonably prominently.
The issue of control is interesting and, notwithstanding my beginner status, I have noticed a certain restriction of control although it's difficult for me to explain musically, given that I play by ear.
