Just got a Supro on Ebay. Looks like it had a funky nut replacement in the past. I can't tell for sure where the painted on fretboard ends because of all the glue globbed on it around the nut. The way the nut is slanting it must be shortening the scale. Has anyone seen a Supro with the original nut at an angle like this?

I've got a double 8 National that has original slanted nuts. Appear to be made out of some kind of hard plastic that feels more like bone. I think at least some of them came with slanted nuts, and my frets seem to be positioned with this in mind. Of course, since mine was made around 1965, it is possible that the leaning happened gradually over time. Plays in tune on all the frets though.

Measure the distance between the nut and the bridge. The 12th fret should be exactly one-half that scale distance.

The 12th fret harmonic should also be exactly at the 12th fret. Otherwise, the nut may have tilted while the glue hardened.
