Ernest Ranglin is way under the radar but he doesn't deserve to be. He's a Jamaican jazz and studio guitarist who was one of the architects of the Mento and Reggae sound. Memories of Barber Mack is one of my favorite records of his. It has a killer rhythm section and Ranglin rises to the challenge with fantastic chord work and skittering, shred-like solos that somehow land on the right side of the beat. Most of the tunes are very hip, in the pocket vamps. Check him out.

If there was any justice in this world this man would be a household name everywhere.
Taste, melodic sense, and chops in spades.
Just check out Stop That Train if you want your mind blown.
Or just about any of his recordings with Monty Alexander.
I haven't seen any video of Ernest playing, but I'd bet he's got a big grin on his face when he lays it down.
