Hello Members And Friends of the Georgia Steel Guitar Association!
Spring is finally here, and it's time to shake off those winter blues. What better way to do that than by spending a day with good friends, good food and great music?
The GaSGA spring Peach Jam is on tap for June 3rd, starting at 10AM.
We're excited to try a new venue for this Jam. We'll be at Nash Farm Battlefield in Hampton, GA. This site was the scene of a pivotal battle in the Civil War, as Confederate soldiers fought General Sherman's army, trying to keep the Union forces from severing the supply lines to Atlanta. Even though this battle was a Confederate victory at this location, you know that Atlanta did eventually fall. Enough about history!!!
DIRECTIONS: From I-75 in Henry County (just south of Atlanta), Take Exit 221, Jonesboro Road (Be sure you are at Exit 221, as there are 2 Jonesboro Rd exits off I-75) At the end of the ramp, go west approximately 6 miles. Nash Farm will be on your left. Parking is on Babbs Mill Rd., which runs directly beside the Farm.
The musicians in the Atlanta area, as well as across the country, are familiar with our headliner for this show. Yes, he's a local player, but he has graced the stage of every major steel guitar show in the country. His touch, tone and vast array of styles make him the first call for sessions and live performances. His performances are as much fun to watch as they are to hear. Tommy Dodd will be lighting up the stage and giving you a fantastic musical experience.
Other players performing are: Jack Conyer, Bill Ferguson, Roger Crawford, Jonathan Cullifer, Scott Kirk, Wilbur Cutbert, Larry Moore John Swain Steve “Alonzo” Walker, Johnny Thomas, Bob Strickland, Bill Cunningham & Jim Hartley.
June is also our month to present the “Legends” award to “?????????”
Your day will be filled with marvelous music. And, there just might be a singer or two on hand to help us out! Be sure to check out the GaSGA website for more information.
We look forward to seeing you:

I went back out to Nash Farm this past Saturday to check on a couple of things in the building. It's a great place to spend some time, even if you are just in picnic mode. I got to got through the museum that's on site. The artifacts that have been recovered there are amazing. I wish it would be open while you're there. Maybe I'll talk to 'em about it. Looking forward to a great day! |

I too want to invite everyone within driving distance to come join us this Sunday for a great day of steel guitar music. The GaSGA has done another great job of lining up a super roster of talent for this show and we're all very excited about the new facility too. So, "come on down" and enjoy the pickin', grinnin', jammin', and visitin'.
See you there! |

Thanks to all who came out today. And a special thank you to those who came early and/or stayed late to help with the chair brigade and other tasks....The Barkers, the Stanleys, Mrss. Crawford, Nicholson, Cunningham, and you too JJ! And to Jerry and Gloria Braswell for the catering. Apologies to the others I can't remember at the moment. It has been a long day.
We had a great show with fine players and fellowship in spite of less than perfect acoustics in the room.
The recipient of the Legend award was our local hero, Bob Farlow. Bob was a very active Atlanta steel player in the 1950's and 1960's. Among his accomplishments was playing in Bill Anderson's local band and being on the original recording of "City Lights". Congratualtions, Bob.
Our next show is planned for early November. Stay tuned for details. _________________ Bill Cunningham

Thanks to all for a great show. I brought three friends from Marietta who had never been to a steel show before, and they were amazed to see what could be done with a steel guitar. |

I want to again thank the GaSGA for letting me be a part of the show this past weekend. Personally, I had a great time and enjoyed all the other players on the show. They all had great sets and everyone handled playing in a the new "venue" with grace and poise.
Also, my thanks to Jerry Braswell and Wendel Gurley for stepping up to the mic to sing a couple songs on my set. These guys are pros and they show it every time they get up on a stage.
I am already looking for the next big GaSGA show sometime in Nov. and I guarantee it will be a great one too! Thanks to the Board of Directors for all your hard work, dedication, and time you put in putting these shows together so we can help promote the instrument we all love so much. You guys (and gals) are the backbone that makes everything happen. My sincere appreciation for all you do. |

Thanks to all the steel players who allowed me the opportunity to share the stage with you. I appreciate your kind words, Tommy , and as I told you Sunday, I feel your set was one of the best I ever heard you play!! You were a good choice for the headliner and I was honored you allowed me to sing with you. The staff band played so good--they have spoiled us by the super job they do each time, making their musical magic appear much easier than it really is--I'm always in awe of them and truly thank them for all they do to give their best for each steeler and singer! Looking forward to the next show-- |
