I know this isn't related to steel guitar, but I just recently purchased a set of 1962 reissue pickups from Fender for my Jazzmaster. Unfortunately they buzz really bad. I took it to a tech, and everything appears to grounded properly. They said that the only thing left to try is waxing the pickups with paraffin and bee's wax or using a noise suppressor. Has anyone else here had that problem? Any advice? Thanks.

waxing them wont help the 60cycle buzz.
thats more to keep the outside windings from becoming loose and causing high pitch squeal feedback. save your money.

They are after all single coil pickups, prone to buzz. This from Lollar's site"

"Noise levels on a Jazzmaster are higher than on a Strat pickup due to its larger surface area. You can expect more 60 cycle hum than a typical Fender (more of a P90 level hum), but Jazzmasters were always RWRP sets, which reduced the hum when the pickups were used together."'

If (as Ken states) the pickup set is reverse-wound, reverse-polarity (RWRP), *and* you still have hum when both are engaged, then you need to reverse one of the pickup's phases. I forget on the JM but on the Duo-Sonic II you could get both phases out of each pickup by flipping one switch the opposite way. If your guitar doesn't have the three-position sliders (like a Mustang) then you'll need to unsolder one pickup and swap the wires hot-ground. Folks think that Fender didn't make humbucking guitars, they are wrong! Stringmasters, Duo-Sonic II, and Mustang were always RWRP, and humbucking when both pickups were on and in-phase.

You can test your pickups with a small rod magnet... it should pull one pole on one pickup and the other pole on the other.
