Im used to small guitar amp with lots of mid because Im used to be a blues guitar player but now I play almost just lap steel and I realized that I like a really warm but clean and defined sound for steel.

I bought a Fender Twin 65 reissue and I experiment with the EQ. My lap steel is a Fender Stringmaster T8.

I mess a little with the EQ at home and at lower volume I like it Treble : 4, Mid : 5, Bass : 6. But when I played this setting at a gig in a small bar the bass was to loud and create a kind of sustain/feedback so I lower it to 4.

I had try to put all to 10 and lower the Treble to 5, I like the sound but its way to loud and the volume is getting hard to control.

I would like to ear about you favorite setting. Thanks!

Moved to Electronics from Steel Without Pedals.

From what I've read (in "The Hawaiian Steel Guitar and Its Great Hawaiian Musicians" edited by Lorene Ruymar) Jerry Byrd used a Fender Twin. He kept the volume at about 4 on a scale of 1-10, with the reverb set to 4. The treble is turned almost off and the bass is nearly wide open, with final adjustment in tone done on the guitar itself.

This is what I generally set my twins at:

brite: off
Treble: 4
Mids: 10
Bass: 3

This makes the amp sound the most open and transparent to my ears. Making it so I can get whatever sound I need without working around big EQ dips and bumps.

Bob, that's the same way I set 'em. I could never turn the bass past 3, and I need the mids up.
