Boy that brings back memories. I remember when I was a kid I heard Chet play "Walk Don't Run" and I learned to play it fairly well and everyone kept telling me "why learn that crap nobody listens to classical music"? The Ventures came out with it and it was a smash hit.
I totally disregarded "Steel Guitar Rag" and "Sleepwalk" when they first came out with the conclusion that I play guitar and there would never be a time in my life when I would be ask to play either of those songs. |

I'd like to know who plays the non-pedal steel on the studio version above. I'm don't know of any other song they recorded with steel. There very well could be some more. They did record a ton of records. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |

Jeff Baxter's steel in the video is a Sho-Bud Super Pro.

Interestingly enough, in 1965, Sneaky Pete Kleinow did his very first recording with The Ventures! The title of the song he played with them was "Blue Star", and it was the theme song for a mid '50s doctor show starring Richard Boone (who would later do a good series run starring in "Have Gun Will Travel"the then-popular).
It was an intersting sound, and proved to be the pattern for much of what followed by Sneaky Pete, heavy on "twang" with a good dose of tape echo. |
