I have an 84 and owned an early 90's one, and they were pretty much identical except for the older one had the chrome hardware and the newer one had the black hardware. Oh, and the older one had a 1502-4 and the newer one had a 1501-4 speaker. I would stack them one on top of the other and they were they same width. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I think the Nashville 400 amps are the same cabinet size. Peavey steel amps with wider cabinets are the orig. Session 400, the late 80's/90's Session 400 limited [including the Wedge] Vegas 400, and more recent 90's Nashville 1000. |

I have been making covers for these amps for quite a while now..There is definately a difference in the cabinet size on all of them..I dont know who builds cabinets but I have seen any where from 1/8 inch to 5/8 difference in almost everyone. _________________ WILCOX SD10 (love the white mica)

Or did the people ordering them from you send the wrong dimensions. I have a hard time believing they would be that far off. Did they actually send the amp to you to make the covers?
The only Peavey amp I know of that had 2 different size cabinets, was the Session 500. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . To answer your question about wrong dimensions.I thought the same thing and then I called Peavey , this is the response I got."There is no 'in house construction shop. All of our cabinets are sub- contracted by us to various wood workers, cabinet makers etc."
In my own experiences as a wood worker myself - I know this- There are no 2 tape measures that will measure with the same accuracy. . Therefore this would explain the differences in measurements of the cabinets..
Try this sometime and you will see. Take a tape measure and cut a piece of string or paper at 10 inches or so , Now take another tape measure and cut another . Now hold the 2 pieces you just cut together and you will find a slight varience. _________________ WILCOX SD10 (love the white mica)

That doesn't make any sense. The cabinet is built to fit the amp chassis. I'd be really surprised to find that the Nashville 400 amp chassis itself varied that much, if any, in widths at different periods.
Seems the only variance might be in slight lumber thickness dimensions of a thirty second or so over the years.
I've built several head cabinets for NV400's. I build them all the same size off a spec sheet. I've never had anyone call and tell me they got one that wouldn't fit the chassis.
Also, Peavey themselves only had one part number for their own Nashville 400 amp cover that they offered.
Several of their other steel amps as mentioned were different size than the NV400 though. |

If you'll use two of the same size rubber bands, and do the same test, it will be easier to calibrate your tape measures....I do it before I build any of my cabinets. |

5/8" difference? Get real. 1/16 or 1/8 max at most maybe if the "tongue" at the end is bent. You must have been speaking to Peavey's janitor. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I am not saying the difference completely lies on the reading of the tape . Take into account as well , thickness of the wood , planing, routing, cutting , exapnsion and contraction of the glue joints over time, etc.
I was a cabinet maker myself for many years and still enjoy wood working to this day.I have seen many a project change in size given years of weather, humidity changes etc. _________________ WILCOX SD10 (love the white mica)

I'd go for 1/8 variation, but not 5/8. A decent woodworker can hold tolerances well inside 1/8. 1/8 is carpentry tolerance. _________________ Johnny Thomasson |
