Hi, Guys ...
Well, despite all my efforts to save my home, the inevitable has happened and I've lost my house through foreclosure.

After 21 years of living in the great state of Texas and loving every minute of it, I have had to say goodbye to my Texas life and, with my dog Angel, move to another state.

Angel and I are now in Louisiana, in Zachary near the Baton Rouge area, and saying hello to the start of a completely new life here.

I'm now living with my nephew, Sheldon, and his wife, Carol. We've been having a great time getting reacquainted after having not seen each other for years. My dog Angel and their little Dachshund, Fletch, are already good friends and getting along together, so there are no issues in the pet department.

I'm full of hope and trust that things will be looking up here in Louisiana. Soon as my car is registered here where I can drive around, I'll be going out to see what all is happening in the area's music scene and, who knows? A gig might be just around the corner. Smile

I can surely relate to you..........

After many years of home ownership, I now find myself in the transient capacity of apartment dweller once again......with all of the nasty people so close around you that shouldn't be allowed to live in a family environment.

We went the 'SHORT SALE' route but the end result is much the same.......you're out of your familiar home that you used to call your own and thrust into a life style not necessarily of one's own choosing.

How many others have you faced such a dilema?

Jim, we have never met, but have communicated thru E mails and by phone a couple of times. It is hard to start over, I've had to do it a few years ago, but I made it thru it all, and you will too. I wish the very best for you, and hope someday we might meet. Good luck my friend. Larry Baker

Thanks everyone ...

Billy and Hal, thank you so much for the welcome to Louisiana. I'll be very happy to call each of you and I'm looking forward to the great pleasure of getting acquainted with you both. Smile

I was actually born in Baton Rouge, but moved to Texas early on and haven't been back to LA since I was a kid (except briefly when I was in the Air Force and stationed at England AFB at Alexandria).

I sincerely look forward to meeting both of you.

Thanks, Ray. I actually attempted the Short Sale route myself. GMAC Mortgage sent me a letter inviting me to participate in the HAFA Short Sale program, which I accepted, and I thought all was going well when (three months into the deal) I suddenly received a letter from the Tarrant County Courthouse stating my house would sell at auction on the first of May.

I'd been in my house for 21 years and it's like losing an old friend. The loss of a home is always sad, but I'll not let it break my spirit ... to stay on the positive side, I'm viewing it as the close of one chapter in my life and the beginning of an exciting new chapter here in Louisiana.

While I'm going to sorely miss Texas in many ways, I'm also looking forward to embracing what life in Louisiana may bring forth. Smile

Thanks, Jerome ...
It is hard to pull up stakes and try to start over, but I have my dog, Angel (a female half black lab and half Jack Russell terrier) and my steel, so I'm content and excited to begin things anew here in Louisiana. Smile

------------------

Danny, Thanks and if I end up with a new number I'll be sure to call you and let you know.

------------------

One of the guys who helped me unload the truck to put my stuff in storage is a guitar player in a small band and he was joking with me and said that playing Cajun styled music is easy ... he said, "If you get lost in the song and don't know what to do, just go to 'C' and wait; everyone will hit that chord at the end of the song!" Laughing

Junior & Mickey, thanks so much, my friends!

The trip down here in that 26-foot truck and pulling my car on a trailer was surprisingly easy (perhaps those years of taking my turn at driving 45-foot tour buses on the road paid off). Only thing was, the 461 mile trip took a tad bit longer than I expected because no one told me that the U-Haul truck I rented wouldn't go over 45-50 mph once it was filled and loaded with the car behind it! Laughing What should have been a 7-8 hour drive turned out to be between 12 and 13 hours. Shocked

When my nephew and his worker were helping me to unload my stuff into storage, my nephew said, "Man, I didn't know you could pack a whole semi-trailer's worth of stuff into a truck like this!" Laughing

--------------------------------

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Billy Tam and Hal Higgins on the phone yesterday, and what a couple of super nice guys! I had a great time talking steel with them and I'm eager to get out and meet them in person and hear them play. Smile

Starting over completely from scratch...

Tornado, hurricane, flood, tsunami, divorce, fire, financial reversal..

No matter what the cause, there's them bar and strings to see you thru.

Worked for me...

Thanks, Ray, and I fully agree ... as well as being a pinnacle for the mountaintop experiences, my steel has been my bridge over many troubled waters throughout the years and even in a few occasions when it seemed things were so low I had to look up to see bottom, there was always steel guitar ... and it really works to see one through anything. I'm finding it's also turning the 'starting over' process into a nice and thrilling new adventure. Smile

I had to leave Houston/San Antonio to come back to Phoenix. I moved back in with my folks, divorce, unemployment, lower pay. I took the opportunity to get a Carter Starter and learn this damn thing. I feel this is all temporary, and my folks in their advanced age appreciate me being around, they put up with my practice. If you don't have good friends and family, things just seem bleak.

This too shall pass!

Hey Jim, good luck on the move. I lived in southern California until I was 45 years old playing music and having a great time until I started looking into my future and decided to move to Virginia as I had some relatives here and a couple of prospects for a "day job"....... I'd only played music for a living in SoCal as the jobs were plentiful then and were all the way up to when I left. Since moving here I got a "city job" and retired from that so life is good and I haven't regretted moving. Just keep hangin' in there and things'll pick up for you I'm sure............Jerry in Va.

ALWAYS remember this.....Success is never ending, and Failure is never final.

How many of you are so successful that God couldn't sweep it all away within the blink of an eye...??

As long as you have breath in your body, then failure isn't really final, is it...??

And always nurture your dreams....because without dreams we all truly die....

Welcome back to Louisiana Jim...!!! As soon as I get some time away from the offshore platforms, maybe we can hook up...!! Best of luck to you..!!!

Hey old buddy, I wish you the best down in Louisiana! These certainly are hard times for a lot of folks. Many things involving real estate have been especially hit hard. I'm sure that you'll land on your feet and will be able to look back on this time from a better place before you know it.

Not a lot of great venues, but there is work! I've recorded with a group, played a baker's dozen of shows, and probably paid off one of my guitars over the last year. If you ever want to get together, give me a call!
