The group will be performing Nani Waimea together with the students of Ke Kula Mele. Practice mp3s and tabs available. For more information or to sign up as a participant go to http://www.hawaiiansteelguitarworldrecord.com
All participating guitarists will play the entire arrangement except for a section that has been designated for individual ad lib solos. This section will be repeated for as many times as there are solo players. And yes, Alan encourages you to do a solo!

On one of JERRY BYRD's 'live' Hawaiian Video's, there is an acquaintance of JERRY BYRD that comes forth and dances with a pretty lady.......while attired in full Native American head dress and buck skins.........
Might that be you?

I was working in Honolulu last week and intended to bring a guitar over and join in the fun. (Got the tip-off from John Ely at HSGA). When I got all my tools packed up, didn't have room for the guitar and amp. Did go by though, here's how it looked at the Windward Mall in Kaneohe:
Greg Sardinha sat in, and Eddie Palama is seen in the middle in the red shirt - I'd say there were about 20 people playing steel, including a couple of people from Japan, if I'm not mistaken.
Guinness wouldn't recognize the attempt because they "didn't have a category for Hawaiian Steel Guitar". Alan Akaka said they offered to put it in the "Guitar" category, but then that would mean having seven thousand something players to get the record - and figured that would require pretty much all the steel players in the world. So this was a rehearsal...
I also caught the second annual "Legends of Hawaiian Steel Guitar" the previous Sunday in Waikiki - this year honoring Tau Moe, Freddy Tavares, Andy Iona, Jules Ah See and Barney Isaacs - great time. |

Forget about the Guinness record book. It was really an excuse for a huge steel guitar orchestra performance. It must have been a beautiful sound. I would love to hear the recording. |
