So let me first start off by stating that I'm a fiddle player...and yes I like to play loud.

I recently got a 1968 Dual Showman Reverb for a steal and am having some Mercury transformers and new caps put in it to bring it back up to snuff.

I've played through 1x15 Vibrosonics and 2x12 Twins before so I'm no stranger to those cabinet configurations. For the sake of keeping the weight down I'm going to keep the Dual Showman in the head cabinet and have some speaker cabinets made. Should I go for a cabinet made almost exactly to Vibrosonic/Twin size specs to retain that open back sound or can I go with something a bit smaller?

Another question... I know I'm going to have a 1x15 cabinet made but I'd also like to have either a 4x10 or some other variation made as well. I'm totally open to suggestions and really want to try something a little bit more outside the box than just the run of the mill 2x12 or 1x15 cabinet.

On a side note: I remember seeing something Ken Fox had mentioned a while back about experimenting with different cabinet/speaker configurations or perhaps someone at Evans Amps experimenting and finding a really cool mix between using different size speakers in the same cabinet. For the life of me I can't seem to find that post.

I was going to ask about speaker preferences but then I realized how loaded that question is. I would be interested to hear which 10 inch speaker you guys would prefer for something like a dual showman putting out 100 watts.

assuming the showman wants to see four ohms, how about an 8 ohm 15 in parallel with a pair of 4 ohm 10s in series?

I have the same 12" BW in the top, but switched the bottom to a 15" Emminence EPS-15.

Cool combination Rick! What made you decide to switch to the Emminence EPS-15?

How does the combination of the 15 and 12 sound together?

I double on tele & steel and they both sound great IMO.
Nice smooth full bottom and a sweet crisp edge.

To my ears the SICA was a bit muddy and lifeless; I like the EPS-15 much better. It may be because of the combination and how I'm eq'ing the mix.

I have a Revelation pre for the steel, run in stereo; one side to each speaker.

The Tele is split into stereo after a Sarno CTP with a stereo chorus pedal.

With the bands I play with we mic the speakers separately. (my wife runs sound).
For provided sound gigs, it's usually a compromise because most aren't willing to give up a second channel.

I did some steel work in a studio a couple months ago and we stumbled across an interesting effect... they panned each speaker slightly to opposite sides. It created a real cool chorus-like effect. Smile
