For those in Central Illinois and Eastern Indiana who can get WILL channel 12 next wednesday the 10th, Pork and the Havana Ducks will be seen playing at 9pm and Sonny Norman and the Drifting Playboys will be on at 9:30., both shows taped in 1980. For you who have never seen a left handed steel player you will see Scotty Baker playing with Sonny and maybe Dyke Corson or Donnie Markham playing with Pork.
Also the following sunday the 14th at 10 pm Patsy Cline: The Lady Behind The Legend.

Hi Lyle, I wish I could see that show. I use to listen to Pork and Dyke and Sunny all the time. I'm from Il and I left in 1982. I use to set in with Pork once in a while thats where I met Dyke.
If anyone tapes it I would love to buy a copy that would bring back a lot of memories.

Yep...I heard about this and definitely going to get a copy of the tape. Was trying to figure out who would be working with Pork at that time. Either Dyke or possibly Darrell Cummings. Definitely have to check this one out!!

I won't be on either one of these shows, I was on the one taped for "Flatland Band" and none of us are dead yet - so they probably won't re-broadcast that one for a while. Pork will have Donnie Markham on steel and Bruce Nelson on lead, maybe John "Catfish" Evans also on lead. They actually let Pork tape two shows because the sound on his first one was so bad - so I hope they use the good one! The original shows were an hour, then they cut them down to 30min. when these shows went into national syndication. Some other cool bands in this "Country Music Hall" series were "Jump n' The Saddle" band with TC Furlong on steel and I think "Timothy P and the RR3" did one also with with Jerry "Muttonhead" Erickson on steel. Razzy Bailey did one too, but I don't remember who his steel player was. Seems to me these were recorded around 1978 or 79 at WILL studios (UofI) in Urbana. We did all the rehersals at the Rose Bowl...ah the good ol days!  |

I worked with Sonny Norman a few times way back when....I would sure love to get a copy of that tape, too!!!

Billy,Big Bob, Rich, Dyke, Kenny I will see about you seeing the tape that my son recorded if you catch my drift."Rub a "DUB" "DUB".
I went by the cemetary and took a picture of Sunny's tombstone with the Fender guitar etched in it. Sunny would have been 691/2 if he had lived.
The two shows last night were great with Sunny's being the best sound wise. On Pork's part the bass was too prominant. Different engineers I guess. I still cannot get over watching Scotty Baker playing his left handed Emmons pedal steel,playing quite well that is.
