My unit is pretty "hissy". It doesn't really make much difference on a noisy bandstand. I was just wondering if there is some setting I need to adjust to reduce the hiss.

By the way, I'm just using it for reverb, reverb/delay, and reverb/chorus.

There is a noise gate you can turn on as one of the effects. It has tweakable adjustments. With the computer program it can be really fine tuned. It seems to work well and doesn't affect tone.I use mine for reverb and delay and its quiet. Might be the chorus so try turning on the gate.

I use the noise gate on all of my patches.

Thanks for the suggestion about the noise gate.

Any recommended settings?

Just adjust until the noise disappears. It may be different values based on the different effects used.

Lee,
Make sure your "Preset Level" (X-Edit program; upper right corner, right after the red words that say Delay>Reverb) is at value 99. Best signal to noise ratio....

Send your patch to somebody else and let them see if they can find the cause of the hiss. You shouldn't have to use a noise gate for Delay & Reverb patches.

I've always been offended by noise gate settings that close to 0db. Even with the nosiest full stack Marshall being driven by the crappiest compressor made, I would only set a noise gate to "duck" the noise down enough decibels to help remove the noise, but still allow a smooth fading sustain down to that point. That option is usually only found in units marketed to the studio usage.

I still use my original RP-150, and have several others including an RP-155. I have not ever notice any hiss when using just Delay & Reverb. I should mention that I don't have the range of hearing that is required to make critical judgements anymore, but hiss can contain a full spectrum of frequencies, so I'm still kinda in the game...Laughing

I can certainly made mine hiss, just dial in a heavy compressor or distortion setting and any hiss in the system will be found and magnified to horrific proportion.

Check the preset level using the X-Edit program.....

I finally took the time to work with the unit. All preset levels are set to 99.

I tried the noise gate. It cuts out the bit of single-coil hum I get here in my practice room; but, it does nothing for the hiss. I even turned off all the effects, using the X-Edit program while the guitar was hooked up. That doesn't stop the hiss. I can unplug the guitar and just run the processor into the front of the amp and there is hiss.

I find that the hiss is worse when using my Evans FET-500LV. It's not quite as bad with my Fender Steel King. It's barely noticeable with my SWR Baby Blue II bass amp.

Oh well. It's one of those things that just don't matter on a loud bandstand.

Thanks for the suggestions.
