Hi folks, I was fixin' to list this on ebay, and figured I'd better put out some feelers here first, and see if I can avoid feebay and make a donation to the Forum instead. $525. Relatively inexpensive, compared to my typically carved or exotic wooded work.
Listing info is as follows:
THE SPECS:
Body: Poplar Heartwood
Fingerboard: B/W/B Pickguard Material(is gloss, but can be matted for any live players anticipating playing under lights, in which case gloss can give glare). Material is cut/routed to reveal the white layer for lines and dots.
Scale Length: 22 1/2"
Pickups: Custom bridge coil wound in the style of a pedal steel single coil(17.5Kohms w/ 1/4" alnico 5 magnets). Custom neck coil in the style of Stringmaster™ coils @8.2Kohms.
Bridge: Heavy Polished Brass Bridge of my design/production.
Nut: -ditto-
Knobs: Cream Speed Knobs. Vol/Vol/Master Tone
Tuning Machines: Planet Waves Auto Trim Locking Machines, Gold Mini (please note that on this build I used an old school(but new from box) set of gold mini lefties, combined with a new school set of gold mini righties, with the difference being the locking thumb-wheels and corresponding logos.
Output Jack: 1/4" Switchcraft in a Telesocket.
Finish: Blue Nitro Semi-Gloss
This is one of a pair of console style lapsteels I've recently finished. Lovely blue color, simple design, with quality parts. Made with a goal of providing something more affordable than some of my other work; so somewhat of a prototype. My instruments are often themed around more exotic wood(s), and involved construction techniques... with instruments more recently ballparking the 800-1100 dollar range.
The other one of the pair is black and is a 6 string and will be assembled shortly and listed too @~$500.
My main goals were being able to keep material cost down and reduce finishing/buffing time, so I have chosen a virtually waste free design/use of poplar heartwood, and have finished in nitro lacquer (Luscious Blue, I'm calling it) that has been applied with satin-er additive, to reduce the glossiness --to avoid the production time in wet-sanding/buffing/polishing, etc.
So, it is not buffed to a mirror shine & the sheen I suppose is nothing to write grandma about, but it is a very rich and protective finish, with a 'vintage' essence to it.
The neck coil has it's own independent volume control and offers more of the Stringmaster™/Fender™ tonality, and the bridge coil is in the style of a pedal steel coil, wound to 17.5Kohms, and is more midrange present.
Between the two coils and the master tone control a number of useful tones are had, but it is fair of me to say that the volume balance from where the neck coils sounds best, adjusted for vol(8-9), and where the bridge coil sounds best(backed off to 6-7 or so), are of a different level when going back and forth.
I've not installed a switch, again for ease of build/time/cost, but would be happy to squeeze in a mini toggle to go from neck/both/bridge, for $20 additional, should a buyer request.
The volumes currently work independently and one coil will not cut the other if turned all the way down, like on a LesPaul™.
A listed above, the fingerboard has a gloss sheen, and I am glad to matte it for anyone concerned of glare in a heavy lighting situation.
Given this is somewhat of a prototype with a couple very minor cosmetic discrepancies, I am listing at $525, with gig bag, and less shipping method of your selection.
In the future I will be likely to value a twin pickup console 8 closer to $600.
The discrepancies, or blems, are a slight sheen difference above the uppermost bass side tuning machine(from the finish hanger hook), and the fifth fret dot has a tiny goober of white paint used for whitening the dot marker routes.
Includes free black Gig Bag, stoutly padded with many useful pockets.
More images can be taken if desired.
And I will note that I've not placed a logo on this one, due to it's prototypic nature(I don't think that's really a word, but I'll pretend it is), but I have it in mind to scroll paint a signature on the show side in cream to match the plates and knobs, should a buyer prefer. I can also label and sign the inside of the control cavity for a more discrete maker's mark. Up to the buyer.

I had a chance to play this guitar today, and it's a great steel! If I wasn't already building one, I would buy this one from Ryan. I am going to put one of his pickups in my guitar. They are really sweet and fat sounding.
Somebody will be very happy with this guitar. _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |

Thanks for the good word, John!
Well, I've bitten the proverbial bullet and posted both the blue one, and this 6 string to feeBay(aka eBay). A search for 'Rukavina' there should bring them up. I am still happy to make a contribution to the Forum upon selling(just say you spotted it here).
And I am willing to include free ground shipping to sweeten the pot, should someone have interest in buying the pair of them together.
The 8 and 6 stringer are listed at $520 and $465, respectively.
Thank you all for looking!
Cheers,
-Ryan |
