stringmasters come in spirts on ebay. you wont see one for a month or two and then they come out of the woodwork.
$1300 isnt what i'd call a screaming deal on a D-8, thou this one looked in better than avg shape. thats about what it would have sold for had it been an auction.

Nor would I term it a "screaming deal", but my criteria is usually out of date (and I flatter myself that I "never pay retail"!). Top criteria for me is case, legs, finish, hardware/parts: all original. I see too many fifties steels being marketed with one of those heavy, oversize, horrid grey-carpet-covered "pet coffins" in lieu of the ohsc. Clean condition figures large too. While perhaps not "screaming", it was inarguably "a deal". I'm guessing the seller had a clue and "got 'er done" with the BIN. |

hey, its good to know us steelers dont have to pay vintage guitar prices - i LOVE it. its been 40 years since you could buy a '57 Strat for $1300.
i think the 1957 retail was like $300 - legs & case were extra.so it IS a screaming deal- time value of money wise.
that may well be a good deal on a clean / org stringmaster - they swing fairly wide at times. back when i was looking for a T-8 stringmaster a couple years ago, i would see NICE D-8s selling in the $800-$1100 range. then you would have the vintage guitar shops with them listed at $2500 - just because they were 50's Fenders and by gawd you shouldnt be able to buy ANY 50's Fender for under $2500.
but i havent been watching prices lately
...after i played my first Dual Pro, i never wanted a Stringmaster again
