I Know .. Jerry Wallace.. Yes great pickups.. I have one on my Carter,,
However, I understand Jerry is backlogged for several months due to his recent downtime. I hear he's doing better and is back working some, but I don't want to bug him about winding one for me too..
Anyone else that does steel pickups, rewinds, mods etc, that will not knock me over the skull pricewise???
I want my old Williams rewound at 8.5,12, and about 15 K... any ideas would be appreciated.... bob |

Jason Lollar rewinds pickups. You could maybe give him a shout at: www.lollarguitars.com

thanks Erv.. I was aware of Jason Lollar, but he won't do what I want, I'm pretty sure, which is to add coil taps and do a total re wind.. His website states he only rewinds steel pickups with broken/shorted coils, .. I could try I suppose... bob |

Lindy Fralin in Richmond. He is one of the absolute best for standard guitar pickups. Might do what you want even though it is a steel pickup. |

I'd get on Jerry's list and wait. It's worth it. Unless your brokedown or microphonic. |

Did you ask Jason???
Jason; made the pickups in the SS HAWAIIAN and that is two pickups reverse wound with blend control....>so yes he can do everything and he is Da'Man on any rewind.
Both Jerry and Jason; DO NOT recommend rewinding with a coil tap or even keeping a coil tap wire; as that just adds inconsistancy to the windings....but they'll do it if you ask nicely...ha.
Both Jerry and Jason are masters at what they do and are extreme perfectionist in doing so....; but I'm sure you can find someone that doesn't take that kind of care to do what you want> but any real good pickup winder will alwasy recommend against it.

Ricky... No I didn't ask as yet.. I do intend to call Jason..
I am only going by what he has stated on his website...
As far as coil taps, I have to tell ya' some old Buds and ZB's had coil taps and they both sounded GREAT to me... If there are any winding inconsistancies, my ears can't hear em!
When Jerry made the coil tapped Truetone for my Carter, he was happy to do it, and never mentioned anything about any sort of problem..
Actually. he seemed justifiably proud of his fine work!
I have used coil taps on all my steels since 1979 and will until they place the guitar in the box with me! ... bob[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 22 October 2005 at 02:38 PM.] |

Bob, I have a George-L 5-tap pickup on my Marlen. It is the original pickup Leonard Stadler used when he built the guitar for Jeff Newman. You could buy it ready-made from George Lewis if it is still available.

John.. Yes thats the GeorgeL. 10-5 pickup.. It is a GREAT unit.. I had one on an MSA for so many years I can't even remember...probably 20 or more... bought it when they FIRST came out.
That is also the pickup I had in my first Carter .. I returned that guitar as it was the wrong color.. The pickup in that guitar had some problems, but sounded just beautiful when it worked.. That is an option I am considering.. I REALLY like the sound of the GeorgeL 10-5 pickup... bob[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 22 October 2005 at 03:41 PM.] |

If it's a Williams, about 10 years ago I had a noisy pickup in my Pro I and Bill Rudolph himself rewound it for me in his garage. Don't know if he still does it, but I'd say probably.

You might also check with Lindy Fralin. II don't know about steel pickups, but his guitar rewinds are stellar. |

Yes Bob; there certainly can be some good ones out there that have not gone microphonic(loose windings); as my 33 year old LDG has the coil tap wire and it's just fine...>>but out of the almost 50 coil tap pickups on the steels I've had here to work on> almost half were microphonic(is the inconsitancy of loose windings I'm talking about).
Yes Jerry is very happy to accomadate any possibility; as Jason would be too.
Good luck.
